Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The manager, High Voltage Engineering provides leadership and vision for the High Voltage Engineering staff. The manager, High Voltage Engineering is responsible for highly technical work in project management, estimating, engineering, designing, procuring material and construction of all High Voltage lines and associated underbuild facilities throughout the MidAmerican system. Other responsibilities include ensuring that all employees are properly trained, directing the evaluation of vendor, contractor and consultant performance and the electrical engineering drafting services. The manager, High Voltage Engineering represents the company at public hearings, regulatory proceedings and other public meetings required for High Voltage line facilities. The manager, High Voltage Engineering provides technical consultive services to other groups within MidAmerican and ensures safety, environmental and regulatory compliance of the department. The manager, High Voltage Engineering also recommends and implements policies affecting the MidAmerican energy delivery system.
Typical Duties
Provides overall leadership and vision to the department, setting goals and objectives to meet customer needs. Recruits and develops technical staff within the department to achieve the skills and leadership necessary to meet requirements and prepare employees for greater responsibility. Fosters learning and collaborative environment within the department. (30%)
Manages and directs the efficient engineering design and project management of MidAmerican Energy Company's High Voltage system. Supervises employees performing highly technical work on MidAmerican Energy Company's High Voltage system. Fosters a cooperative environment with other departments that are directly involved with High Voltage projects to help effectively achieve project and system reliability objectives (30%)
Assists other departments with issues relating to MidAmerican's energy delivery system. (20%)
Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department. (15%)
Manages MidAmerican's High Voltage records and develops and implements department policies, procedures, practices and standards. (5%)
Performs additional responsibilities as identified, requested or assigned.
Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.

Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering. Professional engineer's license and/or advanced degree preferred.
Eight years of successful leadership experience in a technical role.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Prior experience presenting at public hearings, regulatory proceedings and other public meetings affecting MidAmerican's energy delivery system.
Demonstrated ability to prepare testimony and other regulatory filings.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Long-term planning skills to establish and pursue long-range goals and objectives.
Effective understanding of utility and engineering economics.
Prior experience developing and implementing policies.
Prior experience in evaluating vendor, contractor and consultant performance.
Demonstrated knowledge of safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
