Job Description
Under administrative direction, manages all functions for the football athletic equipment room, acting as the primary interface with coaches and administrative staff within the ASU Football Program. Supervises staff and student employees; manages purchases and vendor selections, ensuring the equipment needs are met; ensures fulfillment of licensed product agreements. Ensures that equipment safety, goals, and objectives are met with strict adherence to NCAA, PAC-12 rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the University, and the Arizona Board of Regents.
Working Environment
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Work hours may include days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • Regular use of commercial-grade washers, dryers and heat press machines.
  • Operates pickup truck, gators, and other motor vehicles.
  • Receives general supervision from the SDA Manager, Equipment Ops/Product Fulfillment and from the Senior Associate Athletics Director.
  • Supervises full-time staff members, student workers and interns.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five to seven years administrative/coordinate experience, including three years experience in supervisory capacity; OR,Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications
  • Evidence of being a certified member in good standing with the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA).
  • Experience as an equipment manager for Football in a Division I program or professional football organization.
  • Evidence of exceptional leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inventory maintenance and the various inventory software programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of equipment maintenance and application.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget setting and maintenance.
  • Experience in budget preparation and forecasting.
  • Experience in planning and organizing.
  • Evidence of the ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
  • Evidence of the ability to lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution's sustainability programs.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Experience in coordinating and prioritizing work and activities of self and others.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and PAC-12 rules and regulations.

Essential Duties
  • Establishes educational sessions for all staff to learn all aspects of athletic equipment operations (Equipment fitting, inventory, travel etc.).
  • Manages and implements work plan in accordance with specifications, objectives, and budgetary guidelines as presented by Manager, Equipment Operations/Product Fulfillment in the operation and maintenance of the football athletic equipment room.
  • Supervises, hires, and trains assigned staff within area to include Athletic Equipment Assistant Manages and student workers.
  • Serves as the resource liaison for Football Coaches (or designees) for team apparel, footwear, and equipment to be ordered from the official team supplier and/or other approved vendors.
  • Manages the preparation of football athletic equipment for pre-season off-site camp and team travel, in collaboration with the Head Football Coach or Football operations representative.
  • Assists in managing the setting of sports budgets for the official team supplier.
  • Oversees the football equipment sport budget allowed for the official team supplier.
  • Assists with the setting and management of the football equipment budget for Athletic Equipment Operations.
  • Maintains accurate files and reports for ordering, issuing, and inventory of all football athletic equipment for assigned sports.
  • Maintains proper inventory control using the selected inventory software system. Creates reports from this software as requested.
  • Adheres to NCAA and PAC-12 rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the department, the University, and the Arizona Board of Regents.
