POSITION CONCEPT
Performs functions related to all aspects of Tampa Electric’s residential, commercial, industrial, and inter-tie electric metering. Assists with all duties in the Standards Lab, which includes maintaining calibration traceability per NIST protocols. Routinely works on energized systems up to 600 volts and occasionally in the vicinity of voltages up to 500 kV. Performs duties including installation, construction, programming, maintenance, calibration and testing of metering equipment; meter reading; troubleshooting; and supporting any emergency overtime work required to provide accurate and timely revenue collection for Tampa Electric Company.
All duties must be performed following the company’s safe work practices and procedures. Work is to be performed both indoors and outdoors, periodically exposing the employee to inclement weather (only when the work can be performed safely). A company vehicle is provided as needed to support the completion of job assignments.
Storm duties may include participation on two-man “wire down” teams and will involve overtime work.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Operation, maintenance, calibration, and documentation for the following Standards Lab equipment:
• Handheld and Stationary Multimeters
• Probewell Test Units
• WECO Model 2350 Meter Test System
• Radian Current and Voltage Standards
• Radian RS-703 Syntron Automated Calibration System
• Knopp Current and Voltage Transformer Test Units
• Phenix and HiPotronix Dielectric Test Units
• Doble F2251 Power System Simulator
• Epoch Multi-Amp Power Supply
• Fluke 540B Thermal Transfer Standard
• RFL Model 620 V-A-W Meter
2. Annual utility inter-tie meter testing:
• Develop and maintain schedule for meter tests at utility inter-tie substations
• Coordinate test schedules with utilities involved
• Perform and/or witness annual utility inter-tie meter tests as required
• Document test results
3. Meter testing at co-generation and independent power producer sites:
• Develop and maintain schedule for on-site meter testing
• Coordinate test schedule with entities involved
• Perform meter tests as required per regulatory requirements
• Document test results
4. Design and construct meter cabinets and associated equipment as needed for new meter installations
5. Program and test high-end metering for critical customers and utility-scale solar installations
6. Collaborate with Substation Engineering and RTU teams
SUPERVISION
Direct Supervision: May assume supervisory function over other IBEW-covered team members

Key Internal: TECO Departments (Line Department; Substation Engineering; Substation Operations; Customer Service; Account Management; Special Billing; Revenue Protection; System Service)
Key External: Co-generators; large commercial and industrial customers; Duke Energy Florida; Power & Light; all other utilities with tie lines to Tampa Electric
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• Required: Associates Degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent
• Preferred: Precision measurement equipment experience; Smith Driving course completion
Licenses/Certifications
• Required: Valid State of Florida Class E Driver License required
Experience
• Required: Meter Technician
• Preferred: 1-2 years as a fully qualified Meter Technician

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required: Operations Test Battery (OTB); pass written and field evaluation; pass Behavioral Fit Test; pass
series of training modules; must pass written test and board review to advance to subsequent pay steps.
WORKING CONDITIONS
May drive approximately 15 -100 miles in an eight-hour shift. Must utilize light & medium, heavy vehicles and heavy bucket truck in performance of duties.
