Description
Performs intermediate semiskilled work reading meters; recording meter readings, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Crew Coordinator.
Examples of Duties
- Locates and reads water meters on assigned route and records consumption.
- Keeps records of meters read and reports meters not accessible for reading.
- Responds to customer inquiries and instructs customers in the proper reading of meters.
- Replaces and repairs defective meters
- Processes service orders; disconnects/reconnects service as needed.
- Tests meters for accuracy and leaks; reports defects and leaks.
- Trains new employees as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts,
using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to wet humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock and frequently requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
