LMC Industries, Inc is seeking a Metal Stamping Tool Designer / Manufacturing Engineer to join our innovative team with an emphasis on part design for manufacturability (DFM) and robust tooling design to achieve optimum production and low scrap levels. In addition, supporting the sales estimating function for part and tool costing of new business opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing automotive, consumer products, and medical device manufacturing company located outside of St. Louis, in Arnold, MO. This position is responsible for assuming responsibility for complex projects for the development of manufacturing methods and processes in the production of various company product lines. Investigate, establish, and recommend requirements for equipment, tooling, materials, and methods of manufacturing, including make or buy decisions and making recommendations for pilot runs through normal production. Work together with plant supervisors, tool room personnel, other engineering functions and Quality Assurance on process improvements and cost reductions through a review of existing tooling and manufacturing practices. Investigate and recommend alternatives to product and tool designs. Capable of directing the activities of one or more employees in lower classifications, including training and checking work for accuracy. Must comply with the LMC Export Compliance Manual.

Key Responsibilities:

· Quote new tooling and tooling repairs to existing tooling and related gages and fixtures. Work with the Sales Account Manager providing material thickness, width and progression, number of stations and tonnage to aid in piece price calculation. Formulate list of concerns / feasibility review for DFM. Create tool concepts as needed.

· Manage the design and build of Metal Stamping Tooling including associate product gaging / fixtures including engineering changes.

· Develop in-process inspection criteria including part process through to finished part completion.

· Specify raw material and process requirements based on customer requirements and DFM for creation of purchase order development for raw materials.

· Develop project completion timelines

· Work with Quality Assurance leads in the development of control plan & PFMEA & incoming inspection criteria for outside services for new and existing tooling.

· Review first article inspections, CPK studies assuring dimensional and capability conformance to be included in PPAP to the customer.

· Create purchase requisitions for metal tooling, tooling repairs, engineering changes, and spare components.

· Submit deviation requests to customers where applicable.

· Participate with customer and supplier NCR resolutions.

· Participate in ECO change management process for metals manufacturing plant.

Required Qualifications:

· Five or more years of hands-on experience in a job shop manufacturing environment.

· Three to five years of experience in tool room activities, including tool, die/mold design and build practices. BS Engineering degree is preferred.

· Five or more years of experience in Sales estimation / quotation support.

· Hands-on experience in a production Metal Stamping and prototype tooling environment.

· Experience designing, building, and troubleshooting progressive Metal Stamping dies, related secondary dies, fixturing and assembly including spot welding, staking, and tapping. Must have good organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

· Must have the ability to take project from design concept to final production with minimal direction.

· Knowledge with In-Die Sensing

· Knowledge of production steel properties to be used in Metal Stamping process such as CRS, HSLA, Aluminum, Copper, and Brass.

· Knowledge of coatings and part finishes such as chrome plating and E-coat, tumbling, deburring.

· Knowledge and safety of mechanical punch press and controls.

· Proficiency with personal computers utilizing Excel and solid modeling, with Visi CAD / CAM or Solidworks and or AutoCad.

· Knowledge of quality control systems such as ISO9001 and IATF16949

· Plastic injection molding knowledge is a plus.

· Demonstrated ability to be proactive and take initiative and organize multiple projects and establish priorities.

· Ability to train others using demonstration, written, and oral communication skills.

· Ability to effectively work across all manufacturing functional groups and lead improvement initiatives cross functionally.

· 10% - 20% travel required.
