Job Title: Mentor Recruiter

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
Since its founding in 1986, Student Sponsor Partners (SSP) has been providing private high school education and one-on-one mentorship to economically and educationally disadvantaged students across New York City. Thousands of students are supported each year by a sponsor and a mentor and attend private partner high schools throughout the five boroughs. SSP is made up of Philanthropy & Resource Development, Programs, and General Administration (Finance, HR, IT). Reporting to the VP of Programs and Corporate Partnerships, the role resides within the Programs Department.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Mentor Recruiter position lies within the Programs Department. The Mentor Recruiter will create the best strategy for recruitment by building partnerships with individuals, organizations, and corporations and by defining a process for ongoing recruitment to fulfill mentorship needs for each class year.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Mentor Recruiter include but are not limited to:
• Maintain a positive work attitude by acting and communicating in a manner conducive to good interpersonal relations (e.g., helpful, courteous, pleasant) with students, mentors, donors, all public, co-workers and managers, in accordance with the spirit of SSP's mission.
• Seek out partnerships, institutions, or channels (e.g. online platforms, social media) that can garner volunteers with the right skill sets and alignment.
• Maintain updated mentor service descriptions and requirements, application forms, promotional materials, and mentor trainings, in keeping with SSP's branded templates.
• Conduct outreach and marketing to recruit volunteers, working in collaboration with the Communications Team.
• Institutionalize the process of recruiting volunteers by implementing a strategic volunteer talent acquisition process and infrastructure.
• Develop and implement plans to contact local businesses, clubs, faith communities, and organizations to present mentoring opportunities. Partner with the Development Team on corporate and other applicable pitches.
• Build relationships with partners and individual mentors to support recruitment efforts.
• Participate in community volunteer fairs and similar activities.
• Continuously evaluate the mentor recruitment process to address the gaps as needed.
• Establish updated mentor and volunteer training for increased sensitivity.
• Work with the VP of Programs and Corporate Partnerships to develop and update the iMentor onboarding platform and steps.
• Respond to mentor inquiries with individual follow-up with each candidate.
• Manage contracted recruiter by setting goals and monitoring progress.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• At least two (2) years of volunteer recruitment and/or talent acquisition at a small
business/nonprofit.
• Strong knowledge of volunteer trends.
• Access and willingness to develop various volunteer recruitment channels.
• Highly effective interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication and presentation
skills.
• Ability to find solutions with limited resources to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of the social sector and volunteer management.
• Ability to leverage networks and interpersonal skills to influence outcomes.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to work with abstract ideas and synthesize information.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Empathic communicator who can quickly build rapport, trust, and credibility.
• Exercises confidentiality and discretion.
• Overall punctuality, dependability, and responsiveness to internal and external requests.
• Enthusiasm to grow and willingness take on new responsibilities as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent of 2+ years relevant work experience.
• Must have at least two (2) years of experience in nonprofit and volunteer organizations with direct
volunteer recruitment and/or management.
• Experience in event planning, community giving, or program participation experience a plus.
• Bilingual (Spanish speaking) a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate the schedules of the students,
parents/guardians, and mentors.
• May need to travel to meet students and families, mentors, and/or school coordinators on-site at schools
or other sites.
