Our Mentor Program pairs our youth with role models who will teach them valuable life skills, and our AMP UP functions to serve at-risk youth attending its Afterschool Program at the AYCC. Community members serve as volunteer mentors, forming intentional relationships with youth to promote a child’s sense of self and others, while helping them develop an intrinsic interest in social, emotional and academic success. Our Mentor Programs Assistant will work to coordinate and facilitate conversations between our youth and mentors!
POSITION SUMMARY: Assist in running the AMP UP Mentoring program currently offered for the afterschool program in Waterville. Support staff and community members who will be matched with Afterschool Program youth mentees with the primary goal of increasing positive social emotional skills and supporting academic engagement. Oversee and manage the program in the absence of the Mentor Program Manager; provide training and technical support as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor and support mentor/mentee matches throughout the year.
- Engage in data collection, reporting, and evaluation support in the Amp Up Program.
- Assist in marketing the mentoring program including creating social media posts, newsletters, and news releases.
- Monitor mentor matches during the afterschool program time under the guidance of the Mentor & Volunteer Programs Manager.
- Assist in training and event preparations throughout the year.
- Assist in conducting interviews for mentor positions.
- Attend recruiting events when necessary and assist in building and executing retention plans for the mentors.
- Strive to encourage positive social development, emotional communication skills, and academic interest within the mentor matches.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm; 15 hours per week
Requirements:KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- High School Diploma or GED, some college course work in youth development or a related field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 year’s experience working with school age youth in a school or childcare setting.
- First Aid and CPR Certification or ability to obtain certification
