Mental Health Therapist
Join the team at Alliance for Community Empowerment (ACE)! ACE is a community-based organization in the West San Fernando Valley that provides quality education, workforce development, reentry and gang intervention programming integrated with counseling, mentoring, case management and other support services for marginalized individuals and families. ACE was established as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2013 in response to community needs. Since its inception, ACE has assisted over 1,200 individuals overcome barriers by addressing the core issues facing their low-income communities. ACE’s fundamental belief is that when people are provided with the right tools, positive role models and opportunity, they can transform their lives and their communities.

TITLE: Therapist I / Therapist II.
DEPARTMENT: Counseling & Support Services.
PRIMARY FUNDING: 
POSITION STATUS: Exempt.
REPORTS TO: Director of CSS.
SALARY RANGE: Job Group IV.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

Programs:
Counseling and Support Services: ACE employs a team of professional counselors to provide high quality care management and therapy services in support of its prevention, intervention, and workforce development programs. The staff of this department provides training in human services specialties across programs. and participates in monitoring and evaluating program and individual staff performance.

Position:
The Therapists assist the Director to ensure the quality of all counseling and psychotherapy services provided in ACE programs. This position provides counseling and psychotherapy services to ACE participants. The Therapists are responsible for ensuring timely compliance with relevant ethical codes and standards.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:
  • Possesses at least entry-level knowledge of the role and duties of the position; understands the department’s roles and is able to meet the expectations of the position for work schedule, punctuality, attendance, time management, productivity, and quality of work.

  • Possesses the technical and software skills to perform the duties of the position (including Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office).
  • Possesses the interpersonal skills needed to promote a safe, positive, and inclusive professional work environment conducive to effective service delivery; communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates cultural competence/cultural humility in community relations and service delivery.
  • Is sensitive to the community, cultural and personal dignity of program participants and is able to successfully engage, assess, and plan services for participants typical of the program’s target population. Recognizes appropriate boundaries and limitations on interactions with program participants and their families and the need to maintain professional standards and practices. Is familiar with standard approaches to accurate participant record keeping, including timely charting, notation formats, content limitations, and confidentiality practices.
  • Possesses knowledge of programs, regulations, and procedures regarding human services, social services, justice, and workforce development.
  • Professional-level understanding of current human development and stages of change theory.
  • Proficient at utilizing a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities/interventions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Carries out intake and eligibility determinations and makes appropriate referrals when the applicant is not eligible for ACE services; conducts participant assessments leading to enrollment; completes and updates participant service plans.
  • Arranges and participates in participants’ family meetings, service meetings, team meetings, etc. and coordinates wrap-around services with other providers; provides transportation of participants to meet program goals.
  • Organizes, coordinates, prepares and delivers skills-based workshops for participants.
  • Enters data into participant databases; assists in the writing of periodic program reports.
  • Attends and participates in all mandatory meetings.
  • Fosters positive relationships with community members and partner organizations.
  • Participate in cultural and community-building activities/events.
  • Works to incorporate into organizational culture best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion, restorative justice, and trauma-informed care.
  • Establishes positive, trusting rapport with a caseload of participants.
  • Diagnoses and treats Mental Health disorders.
  • Creates individualized treatment plans according to participant needs and circumstances.
  • Meets with participants regularly to provide counseling/psychotherapy and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of participant progress.
  • Involves and advises family members when appropriate.
  • Refers patients to outside specialists or agencies when necessary.
  • Maintains thorough records of patient meetings and progress.
  • Follows all safety protocols and maintains confidentiality of Protected Health Information.
  • Contributes to practice by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Collaborates with participants to develop post-treatment activity plans.
  • Maintains compliance with ethical codes and standards.
  • Safely manage participants in instances of a Mental Health crisis.
  • Identifies and provides appropriate psychotherapy for participants and their families.
  • Refers participants to specialists for further treatment as appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains accurate records regarding case progress, evaluations, and any further treatment recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy.*
  • Current registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Possess a current California Driver’s License, clean DMV record & adequate auto insurance.
  • Must submit to a Department of Justice Criminal background check.
  • Initial TB employment clearance is required.
  • Therapist I requires a Master of Social Work or Master of Marriage and Family Therapy. Therapist II requires a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

The anticipated pay range for candidates who will work in California is $60,000 to $65,333 annually.  The offered pay to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc.
