JOB NUMBER: 2023-00230King County Library System (KCLS) in Washington State is seeking a community-oriented and collaborative Memory Lab Librarian to provide service in the Bellevue and Federal Way libraries. This temporary position will serve until December 2028.Internal KCLS applicants: If selected for the position, KCLS will hold your current position for the duration of this temporary position. The Memory Lab Librarian will lead the creation of two Memory Labs at the Bellevue and Federal Way Library Makerspaces. This role will serve as project manager of the project and will work with established community partners, internal and external stakeholders, to recruit, gather, and create a digital archive of patron stories from two focus audiences: Japanese Americans and their descendants displaced from their homes and farms in the Bellevue area during World War II and the stories of immigrants and refugees who now call King County home. This position represents KCLS within the community, building collaborative relationships, programs, and services in partnership with community members and organizations. Librarians also help to manage KCLS materials to meet the educational, recreational, and information needs of the community. These positions provide patrons with basic technological and in-depth informational assistance. More importantly, you will have an integral role in upholding KCLS’s longstanding tradition of exceptional service.This role will regularly travel between Bellevue Library and Federal Way Library, as well as meet with community groups all over King County. Centers the experiences of people and communities who are most affected by structural inequities when engaging in programming, partnerships, and information services work.Mentors, trains, and models for other staff. Works closely with the Public Services Assistant (PSA) position in support of excellence in informational and readers’ advisory services.Creates and provides relevant and timely communications.Participates in collection development and maintenance activities.Secondary Duties: Initiates, participates and collaborates in the library profession beyond KCLS.
