MAINE STATE BAR ASSOCIATION SEEKS MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR
The Maine State Bar Association (MSBA) is seeking a self-starting, motivated professional to serve as full-time director to execute the strategic direction for the Association’s growth within Maine’s legal community, specifically attorney membership recruitment, retention, and relationships. This includes strategizing, planning, and managing activities and services that provide value to members and promote membership growth.
Mission: The Maine State Bar Association promotes the honor, dignity and professionalism of lawyers, advances the knowledge, skills and interests of its members, and supports the public interest in a fair and effective system of justice.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Membership Recruitment & Retention
- Develop and coordinate and annual recruitment and retention strategy, in conjunction with the Executive Director and Membership Committee
- Manage overall recruitment and retention strategy to meet goals established in biennial strategic plan
- Serve as staff liaison to Board-level Membership Committee, and work with Committee to develop membership initiatives, research new member benefits, build membership campaigns, and create member surveys
- Identify, conduct outreach, and recruit new members
- Create and provide presentations and promotional materials to educate current and potential members about MSBA benefits and services
- Direct the annual membership renewal process
- Steward relationships with current members in partnership with the Executive Director and President
- Coordinate with Communications Department to market member initiatives, benefits, and services via print, website, and social media outlets
Membership Programming
- Plan and manage membership events in coordination with other staff, including annual membership conferences, section meetings and events, special events, law firm visits, swearings-in, and law school orientation events
Management
- Supervise, in coordination with the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Director, the Membership & CLE Coordinator
- Responsible for developing and maintaining corporate sponsorships
- Develop and maintain membership category tracking system
- Provide membership reports to Executive Director in preparation of Board of Governors meetings
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required, preference in communications, marketing, hospitality management, or similar
- Full-time, in-office position with statewide travel
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
- At least three years working in sales and/or member-based organizations, preferably with management experience
- Experience with corporate sponsorships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to solve problems creatively, undertake detail-oriented work, and work well as a member of a team
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Valid driver's license and consistent statewide travel required
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Range: $58,000-$65,000/year based on experience
