General Summary

The Member Service Officer increases the use of Credit Union products and services, by successfully building long-term relationships with members and their businesses. To continue to grow these relationships to achieve personal and Credit Union goals.

The Member Service Officer must carry out the essential duties of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates our mission, vision, and core values of the organization in a positive manner.

Tasks, Duties & Functions

  • Provide prompt, positive, courteous, and professional service to members and co-workers at all times by listening, maintaining confidentiality and communicating appropriately and effectively with the members (making eye contact, smiling, using their names, acknowledging them and being courteous).
  • Build productive relationships with members that increase their active use of Credit Union products and services by utilizing the cross-selling process.
  • Serve as a supportive, productive, and reliable team member in all interactions with co-workers and in the timely completion of all duties and responsibilities.
  • Possess knowledge of all Credit Union products and services and demonstrates proficiency in explaining the benefits in a clear and simplified manner to all members.
  • Achieve goals set by the Credit Union by following up with referrals and finding opportunities to build member relationships.
  • Display a thorough knowledge of, and comply with, all federal regulations and procedures concerning deposits and loans.
  • Foster the general financial well-being of members and the Credit Union by consistently offering loan protection products.
  • Provide back-up support during daily opening and closing procedures.
  • Conduct credit interviews and perform comprehensive credit investigations on all types of credit applications.
  • Approve or deny credit applications within scope of Credit Union lending guidelines and policies and individual approval authority.
  • Open, maintain and close all loan and deposit products; properly submit documentation for completion.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and handle multiple priorities.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and assist members with their request in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain a neat and organized work area in order to give prompt and focused attention to member requests.
  • Attend training courses, conferences, and seminars as necessary to meet certification and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the following areas, which are critical to the success of the essential skills described above: problem solving, sound judgment and ethical decision-making, initiative, creativity, writing ability, analytical ability, and cross-selling.
  • Participate in Credit Union community-related activities and community service initiatives.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Requires completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two to three years of experience in a financial institution or related field.
  • Requires the ability to work a flexible schedule which may include possible evening or weekend hours based on branch needs.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills for dealing with a diverse group of members, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Consumer lending is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft office and Outlook.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills are required (general calculations, decimals, percentages, fractions).
  • Ability to cross-sell products and services.
  • Must be bondable.

Working Conditions

  • Work will be conducted in a well-lighted and ventilated office setting.
  • Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and navigating stairwells required during working hours.
