- Advocates sound business practices to operational processes to supply the customer and stay within budgeting standards
- Develop and implement a comprehensive refractory maintenance program to optimize lifespan and performance
- Develop and manage budgets for the department
- Ensures compliance with employment laws and regulations, minimizing the company's exposure to adverse outcomes of complaints, litigation, audits and inspections
- Evaluate, select, and procure refractory materials for use in various steel mill applications, including furnaces, ladles, and tundishes
- Monitor market trends and assess the impact on raw material costs and availability
- Support continuous process improvements plant wide include: product quality, processes and cost efficiency
- Manage the procurement of raw materials required for steel production, such as ferrous scrap, alloys and fluxes
- Ability to work under the guidelines of CMC's core values and safety standards
- Ability to make sure all employees are trained and well prepared to carry out their daily tasks to ensure everyone's safety
- Responsible for advancing a strong culture of good housekeeping
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining production procedures and recordkeeping of process changes
- Manage, schedule and provide direction for day to day operations of the EAF
- Ability to teach, train, and coach; time management; and ability to delegate those tasks best performed by employees
- Ability to effectively delegate tasks and influence others
- Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations within the steel industry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Possess strong management skills with the ability to oversee Shift supervisors and hourly employees in a Non-Union environment
- Must be people oriented a team builder and must work closely with the maintenance organization
- Ability to work with the other Managers as a part of the Management Team
- Presentation skills to train and offer technical support in both a one-on-one facet and for large groups
- Problem solving ability to use logic and methods to solve business and process related problems with effective solutions
- Understanding of refractory materials, their properties, and applications
- Experience working in a Melt Shop environment with knowledge of different scrap types, fluxes, power/ burner programs, EAF refractory
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Engineering or a related field preferred
- A combination of formal education and/or directly related work experience may substitute for the degree.
