The CBJ Municipal Clerk's staff is dedicated to providing Public Service to ALL in all we do. Among a myriad of statutory duties, Clerk staff serves at the front lines of democracy in action, supporting the work of the Assembly, its committees, boards, and commissions.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a dependable, tech-savvy person, to provide part-time Meeting Clerk/Technical Support running and troubleshooting all aspects of public meeting A/V systems during meetings of the Assembly, Assembly Standing Committees, and other boards and commissions. During non-meeting hours, the person will produce meeting minutes so good listening, comprehension, and writing skills are required.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
Most meetings are during the evening hours, with some occurring during regular business hours. During non-meeting times, work hours and location will be flexible, subject to negotiation. This work includes tasks such as producing meeting minutes as well as performing other Clerk-related duties as assigned.
Typical Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Primary Duty - Providing in-person meeting Technical Support during public meetings:
In this position, you will attend meetings in-person and ensure that all Assembly, Assembly Standing Committee and Planning Commission meetings are recorded, and broadcast if required. This position verifies that equipment for the meeting is functioning properly, including but not limited to the computer hardware and software systems, audio/visual systems, microphones, speakers, and any other AV needs. This position will troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment, sometimes under time pressure. Other meeting-related duties may include providing staff support to Assembly and board members as well as the public and the administration during the conduct of those meetings. This position will also be the primary individual tasked with assisting and training other CBJ staff on the use and maintenance of the A/V systems in the Assembly Chambers and other public meeting spaces controlled by the Municipal Clerk's office.
Secondary Duties - Minutes Clerk, Records Management, and Election Support:
You will be assigned to assist in the creation, preparation, publication, and archiving of meeting agendas, minutes, packets, and legislation as well as audio/visual recordings for certain meetings of the Assembly and its subcommittees. Other duties will include assisting Clerk staff in fulfilling Records Management tasks and conducting municipal elections.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Comfortable working with technology. Familiarity or understanding of Microsoft operating environments, Microsoft Office suite of tools, desktop computing systems and mobile technologies.
Other: Must have a basic familiarity with Microsoft operating systems and/or Microsoft
Office software.
Must be 18 years or older.
Must have a Valid Driver's License.

  • Alaska Driver's License (or obtain one within 30 days of employment)
  • Upon employment, must be a registered Juneau voter or eligible to become a registered Juneau voter 30 days after appointment and must become an Alaska Voter Registrar and Alaska Notary Public.
  • Due to the role in providing election support, this position requires certification that the applicant has not been convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude, or having been so convicted, has been unconditionally discharged from incarceration, probation, and/or parole.
