Core responsibilities and essential functions:
Patient Demographics:
- Checking to ensure that patient’s name is correct.
- Checking to ensure that the part types are correct and there are no discrepancies.
- Notifying Histology personnel/Pathologist’s Assistants/Pathologists regarding correction of any
Transcribing of reports:
- Transcription work related to pathology reports (both gross and microscopic description) to include:
- Gross description dictated by Pathologists Assistants or Pathologists on surgical reports, autopsies,
- Typing and expediting frozen section/touch prep gross dictations/frozen section/touch prep diagnoses
- Muscle and kidney biopsies dictated by Pathologists Assistants or Pathologists
Transcribe Microscopic Description during the pathologist’s review of the slides to include:- Entering appropriate staging and synoptic reports on cases with malignancies.
- Creating and typing addendum reports when a pathologist is adding results of stains or
- Transcribing gross and final bone marrow reports to include:
- Typing and entering CBC data and differential, along with transcribing peripheral blood smear
Preliminary reports:
- Creating preliminary reports for cases that are sent out in consultation to outside facilities.
- Typing correspondence/letters to accompany the preliminary report to the outside institution.
Send out cases:
- Creating send out reports for molecular studies when applicable.
- Transcribing results for Mismatch Repair Protein Testing for the pathologists.
Tissue Committee Codes:
- Entering internal tissue committee codes on reports, as dictated by the pathologists.
Weekend coverage:
- Providing coverage every 4th Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., assigning, expediting and

Completes transcription duties in a timely manner and produces the necessary quantity of work required.
Produces high quality pathology reports.
