Since inception, CHI St. Alexius Health Turtle Lake has been dedicated to serving the residents of Turtle Lake, ND and the surrounding rural communities. CHI St. Alexius Health includes the Turtle Lake Hospital, Turtle Lake and Washburn Family Clinics. CHI St. Alexius Health Turtle Lake includes services of a 26-bed facility, a rural health clinic, and an emergency department that is available 24 hours a day. We offer many outpatient services, including physical therapy, radiology services, laboratory services, cardiac rehabilitation, and IV treatments.

Responsibilities
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: Performs routine analytical laboratory tests to aid in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease, using appropriate personal protective equipment and safety techniques. Performs quality control and maintenance on instruments, assists in orientation and teaching, and other functions as assigned. Performs venous, arterial, and capillary blood collection procedures. Recognizes results to avoid erroneous reports, reports critical values according to protocol. Follow policy and procedures and the Mission and Philosophy of Community Memorial Hospital.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilizes professional training and experience to draw blood specimens from patients of all ages served and rotates with staff.
- Performs QC per department policy.
- Performs Maintenance on instruments per Departmental policy.
- Performs Proficiency testing on rotating basis with staff.
- Reports panic values to nursing/providers within 15 minutes of result completion.
- Reports to hospital within 20 minutes while on call.
- Resolving problems involving specimen collection, analyzer errors and abnormal results by performing reruns, redrawing patients and calling Kebocom for tech support.
- Performs Calibration as needed and 6 month verification on required analyzers.
- Supply inventory for lab kept at usable level with inventory ordered when needed so no STAT orders need to be made and supplies do not outdate.
- Performs routine analytical lab tests using automated and manual procedures accurately and reports results to Providers using LIS, fax, or telephone within 1 hours of specimen receipt.
- Keep all records for State Health Inspection in an orderly fashion and available for review.
- Continuing Education Requirement for MT of 20 CEU’s every 2 years.
- Continuing Education Requirement for Limited X-ray of 12 CEU’s every 2 years.
Qualifications
- Before September 1, 1993: Non-degreed persons who “grandfathered” in to State Licensure. Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Science. After September 1, 1993: Certification from a National Certifying Agency (ASCP or NCA). or Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Microbiology.
- 80 Hour Didactic Course (Department Approved), ND Limited Scope X-ray Operator State Exam, 3 hour Self Study of required reading & video instruction.
Licensure: North Dakota License
Experience: Medical Technologist, Medical Lab Tech or Clinical Lab Tech, based on the needs of the laboratory.
