Summary: Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. Insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department’s policies and procedures. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulative requirements. Teaches new employees and students laboratory policies and procedures. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens as required. Assists as needed in all laboratory areas as required to maintain appropriate patient care. Serve as the primary technical supervisor, provides resolution to client issues, and maintain customer service and support. Assist director in planning section goals and procedures for accomplishing goals. Work in conjunction with the Laboratory Administrative Director and Medical Director to oversee the laboratory in his/her absence and to assure a focus and commitment to the laboratory’s goals and mission.
Qualifications:
Education: Baccalaureate degree from any accredited college/university, Degree must be in Medical Technology or one of the biological or chemical sciences, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics or documentation of MLS/MT or CLS certification required. Laboratory training through an accredited laboratory school preferred.
Experience: Two years experience
Licenses/Certifications: Eligible for registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP), Medical Technologist, MT(ASCP), MT(AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA) preferred.
