Experience and Education
No experience necessary, although previous experience in a particular area is a plus. Associate degree in Medical Technology from an AMA approved school. MLT certification required (ASCP or equivalent)
Shift: Mon-Fri, 1:30PM-10PM
Job Duties
1.Applies knowledge and skills to perform a wide variety of routine and designated laboratory tests for which competency has been established. Can do waived and moderate complexity testing. Exercises professional judgment in determining the acceptability of results prior to release to the patient records. Seeks guidance on resolution of instrument, method or specimen problems from Professional Medical Technologists, Leads or supervisory staff as needed.
2.Performs routine QC and QA tasks according to established protocol, resolves routine problems and refers unresolved or complex problems to designated Professional Medical Technologist for further evaluation then executes corrective action as directed. Support Quality Management initiative according to UTSW and Clinical Laboratory Services Quality Programs . Ensures review of all daily, weekly and monthly records and data including quality control, temperature monitors, batch logs, recollects, and turn-around-time.
3. Operates, maintains and troubleshoots complex instruments. Maintains laboratory records and computer files. Operates LIS computer terminals and printers.
4.Upon supervisor's designation, may act as group leader to less experienced staff on weekends and holidays to ensure lab service meets patient care needs.
5. Manages infectious specimens, radioactive material, hazardous chemicals and potentially dangerous instruments in accordance with hospital policies, in order to maintain a safe work environment.
6. A. Participates in work of department as may be required by workload. B. There will be changes to their job duties as required.
7. Demonstrates financial accountability through accurate documentation of workload and efficient use of reagents and supplies.
8. Continuously strengthens knowledge of clinical laboratory principles and techniques through participation in continuing education programs.
9. Assists in specimen processing as needed and shows competency in accurately receiving, centrifuging, aliquoting, and transporting specimens for testing. Ensures add-on specimens are pulled from storage and tested accordingly and within TAT.
10. Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
**Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
