Job description

The position receives patients, answers telephone calls and performs other clerical assistance in relation to patient care and treatment or patient registration.

We are accepting applications at multiple grade levels and multiple locations for recruitment of the greatest number of candidates through an open period. Candidates are referred as vacancies occur.
Qualifications: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-03:
Your resume must demonstrate performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
  • SIX months of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-2 level. OR
  • ONE year of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR
  • COMBINATION of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify an applicant for the GS-3 level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-04:
The following information shows the amounts of education and/or experience required to qualify for this position
  • GS-04 requires 12 months of general experience OR substituting education for experience. You can substitute two years education above High School graduation.
  • General Experience Requirement is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-05:
The following information shows the amounts of education and/or experience required to qualify for this position.
  • GS-05 requires 12 months of specialized experience OR substituting education for experience. You can substitute four years education above High School graduation. NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
  • Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
  • Specialized Experience Requirement is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
  • Examples of specialized experience. Work such as serving as a receptionist in a medical treatment center, performing record keeping duties and providing miscellaneous support to the medical staff of a medical treatment center. Work that uses a practical knowledge of computerized data entry and information processing systems and basic rules and regulations governing patient treatment and standard procedures such as medical records, and medical terminology of the unit supported.

TYPING PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT (All Grades)
In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for this position must show possession of Office Automation (OA) skills. This position requires the skill of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute (based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors). All candidates must self-certify their typing ability when completing the occupational questionnaire.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

You must meet the requirements of the job by 11:59 pm (Eastern Standard Time) of the cut-off date. Cut-off dates are established based on the date the human resources office receives management request for a list of eligibles. The job announcement is open continuous until the closing date.
Education: If you are electing to combine education with experience or you are electing to substitute education for experience, you are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer.

Type of education you may use to combine or substitute for experience. Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5 for all positions. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.Employment Type: FULL_TIME
