Job Summary:
The Medical Scribe is responsible for accurately documenting the patient-provider encounter. This is an in-person scribe position in an inpatient (hospital) setting, and in-person or virtual outpatient setting.
Inpatient setting: the Behavioral Health Scribe rounds with a Psychiatric MD and mid-level Providers and documents the encounter in the hospital based EMR system or paper chart.
Outpatient Setting: Works to facilitate patient flow and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient as directed by the Provider/Physician.

Job Summary:
Medical Scribes record patient medical reports and other patient data under the direct supervision of the physician. The primary goal of a scribe is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the physician they are working for - allowing the doctor to focus on what is most important, the patient.
This position will require up to 15 hours a week. Set schedule will be determined.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, management, staff, and other customers.
- Demonstrated patient and customer service skills, including the ability to use appropriate judgement, independent thinking and creativity when resolving patient and customer issues.
- Ability to effectively handle challenging situations.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use personal computers and select software applications.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Scribes will interact with patients, families, ancillary staff, nurses, social workers, physician assistants, physicians, and others.
- Performs related work duties as assigned
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training Required for the Job:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 6+ months of undergraduate education with emphasis in pre-medical studies preferred; pre-medical students and/or anyone in the allied health professionals.
- Successful completion of Medical Scribe training program preferred.
- Must be proficient in typing and good at spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication. Must also be able to listen to complex medical information and summarize in a clear, complete, and concise fashion.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Ability to learn and appropriately apply basic medical terminologies and techniques taught and used on the job.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to actively listen.
- Ability to observe and to draft a narrative account of events accurately and cogently, in grammatically-correct English.
- Ability to spell proofread and edit written text.
- Keyboard proficiency
- Ability to operate a personal computer and related software applications.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, highly-stressful environment that routinely involves exposure to highly-sensitive personal behavioral health/medical issues.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects and patients.
