Responsibilities
Medical Records Specialist - Fulltime/days
Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing quality healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the Carolina Center for Medical Excellence for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Services provided at the hospital include emergency medical care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, and behavioral health services.

Medical Records Specialistperforms accurate and timely prepping and scanning of Medical Records. Processes transcribed reports, analyzes Medical Records, and related medical record functions.
Job Duties:
  • Preps Medical Records correctly with 100% accuracy.
  • Scans Medical Records into Cerner accurately and timely.
  • Completes QC and validation with 100% accuracy to ensure a complete, quality record is in Cerner on every patient.
  • Preps, scans, validates, and QC's loose reports with 100% accuracy and within 3 days of receipt.
  • Cleans large and desk scanners thoroughly and according to schedule.
  • Responds to telephone calls within three rings and answers with a helpful, professional tone.
  • Handles release of information requests accurately when ROI staff is absent.
  • STATS dictated reports according to procedure. Follows up on late STATS timely.
  • Picks up discharged records and breaks down correctly. Checks off inpatient discharge list accurately. Follows up with supervisor on missing records.
  • Pulls discharged records for Case Management in a timely manner.
  • Accurately analyzes outpatient Medical Records for deficiencies with 98% compliance. Completes reanalysis as appropriate.
  • Prints Wound Expert notes daily to be scanned into Cerner.
  • Rotates on Saturdays.
  • Submits birth certificates to the state accurately within 5 days of birth.
  • Accurately completes Paternity Acknowledgements.
  • Prepares and distributes Newborn packets to new parents daily.
  • Acts as a resource for new parents in L&D as needed.
  • Retrieves and files and fetal monitoring strips correctly and prepares for off-site storage.
  • Enters Hearing Screenings and changes baby names correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Acts as a resource for physicians in completing Medical Records.
  • Picks up lab and Radiology Reports in a timely manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Requirements:
Education requirements: Associate degree in business or related major required.
Work experience requirements: Two years general office experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Required licenses/ certifications/courses N/A
Required skills, knowledge and abilities: Knowledge of PC applications and the ability to demonstrate in other technology. Must be detailed oriented. Excellent communication skills required. Must be able to pay attention to complicated work procedures and remember them.
