This is level I Medical Physicist Associate. Under the supervision of the chief physicist-manager and in collaboration with staff Medical Physicists, the level I Medical Physicist Associate shall support, assist, and participate in providing medical physics services in general imaging modalities, including but not limited to: a.assist with the implementation of general radiography, fluoroscopy, cardiac Cath, IR and ultrasound quality control, b.participate in acceptance testing and evaluation of general radiology equipment, use methods patient dose estimate from general radiology and special procedures radiology including peak skin dose estimate form high dose modalities, c.participate in residents hands-on testing practices and didactic work, d.support the section clinical practicums given to radiology residents.

Responsibilities
  • 1. 1. Assist staff Medical Physicists in the implementation of diagnostic radiology quality assurance programs with special attention to general radiography, interventional radiology imaging, ultrasound, display monitors and appropriate informatics applications. 2. Perform periodic testing and calibration of mentioned general and fluoroscopy imaging equipment and produce appropriate reports for staff physicist review. 3. Implement corrective action plan and follow up process with imaging providers originating from identified imaging equipment failures 4. Help estimate and communicate patient doses from radiographic procedures and peak skin dose calculations from high dose IR and Cardiac Cath procedures.5. Assist staff with training and scheduling of new residents on hands-on testing of equipment and their didactic education needs. 6. Assist in providing and maintaining the clinical practicum schedule given over the year to radiology residents. 7. Help with evaluating and identifying the needs for patient personal treatment dosimetry using new therapeutic methods under the department Theranostics program. 8. Evaluate ancillary equipment performance by applying principles of medical physics and statistical analysis during acceptance and routine quality control testing of equipment including (but not limited to): a. Repeat/Reject Analysis, b. Review of techs daily CT QC water phantom evaluations, c. Review of weekly MR QC evaluations and d. evaluation of specimen Imagers. 9. Perform other duties as required in support of the mission to ensure radiation dose management and quality optimization.

Qualifications

EDUCATION


-Completion of an undergraduate degree in physics, physical sciences, or engineering.-B.S. or M.S. degree in radiological physics, applied radiation sciences, or an equivalent specialty required.


EXPERIENCE


-2 to 3 years of experience in clinical physics or the equivalent required.


SPECIAL SKILLS


The position requires sufficient knowledge of the physics of radiation, radiobiology, computational algorithms, teaching, principles of image acquisition, post- processing, and principles of 3D lab methods.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


hospital environment, follow policies and procedures, work with ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, time flexibility for specific work assignments. Be able to carry or move test phantoms and test equipment in the 20-30 lb weight.
