Job Summary:
A Medical Lab Technician performs laboratory tests on varied clinical specimens following defined procedures including quality controls. Performs general maintenance, instrument start up and shut down. Performs accessioning of specimens and related paperwork associated with specimen preparation for processing. Performs additional tasks as assigned. Assists in phlebotomy and participates in CQI activities. Rotates Southside/Dodson Avenue sites.
This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
Education:
Required:
Associate's degree in Applied Science, Medical Laboratory Technology or related scientific field and 12-months approved clinical training in a NACCLS approved program or equivalent. In lieu of Associate's degree has successfully completed equivalent military training and served as a Medical Laboratory specialist.

Department Position Summary:
A Medical Lab Technician at SS/DA Laboratories performs routine laboratory procedures following well-defined and preset criteria. Performs quality control procedures according to established protocol. Performs preventive maintenance and special procedures as required. Responsible for routine duties such as accessioning and completion of paperwork related to the appropriate specimen received in the Laboratory. Responsible for decontamination of work area, equipment, monitors and maintains inventory of essential products. May assist in training of new personnel. Performs phlebotomy on patients as needed. Performs additional projects or tasks that may be assigned by the Laboratory directory or supervisor. Assists in cost containment and CQI activities.
