AddressSummary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Responsibilities Duties for this position include but are not limited to: Gathers related information such as patient electronic chart, PACS images, so that correlation of examinations to other studies may be made by the radiologist in diagnosis and treatment recommendation for medical disorders. Makes multiple simultaneous settings and adjustments in operation of equipment to ensure accurate results. Based on radiologic findings, determines necessary ultrasonic procedures to yield definitive diagnostic findings Maintains accurate ultrasound records for easy recall access to include maintaining a diagnostic log, patient schedule log and procedures log, editing and when necessary, registering patients in the Radiology Information System (RIS). Uses independent interpretation of the ultrasound image. Advises radiologists, vascular physician or referring physician of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing the examination. Distributes ultrasound examinations and related information in a timely manner to the radiologist responsible for the interpretation of the exams. Performs digital transfer of images from the various ultrasound imaging systems to the PACS and cloud-based imaging for image importation and export. Assists quality assurance testing on the ultrasound unit to ensure peak performance of the ultrasound equipment and maintains quality assurance records. Performs housekeeping duties to assure the ultrasound area is clean and sanitary and uses aseptic techniques in examination process. Stays current on changing and new developments in the field. Provides staff and student training on ultrasound procedures/processes. Diagnostic Ultrasound Technicians operate diagnostic ultrasonic scanning equipment to produce cross sectional and two dimensional pictures of internal organs and body structures used to diagnose diseases and other medical conditions. Registration is offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Grade Determinations: Medical Instrument Technician (Diagnostic Ultrasound), GS-08: Experience, Experience, and Licensure:. At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level (GS-07) which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics related to the duties of the positions to be filled. This would be experience which provided the overall knowledge, skills, and abilities to conduct Diagnostic Ultrasound examinations in complex and unusual cases. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to perform Diagnostic Ultrasound examination on multiple areas of the body, including, but not limited to, the abdomen, pelvis, transvaginal, chest, small parts, thyroid, breast, and scrotum. Ability to perform vascular studies such as vertebral, renal artery, aortic aneurysm, portal-systemic shunts, etc. Ability to assist radiologists with biopsy procedures determining the location, depth, and required needle angle for the lesion to be sampled. Ability to assist in surgical procedures and fluid aspirations. Assignment. This represents the full performance level for Medical Instrument Technician (Diagnostic Ultrasound). At this level the technician is required to perform a full range of procedures including special complicated examinations for which there are no standard instructions or procedures. They perform independent portable ultrasound examinations in the intensive care units, emergency room, surgery, and throughout the Medical Center when required. They also work independently on evenings, nights, and weekend tours of duty as scheduled and/or when on call. Preferred Experience: 2 years of experience. Physical Requirements: he physical demands of the work require long periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Work involves constant bending, lifting, twisting, and carrying moderately heavy items. Use of mobile ultrasound units in the main hospital and in the operating room requires twisting, turning to manipulate the ultrasound unit. The work requires pushing wheelchair and stretcher patients. Positioning patients who are unconscious or disabled requires considerable effort and working in awkward positions. Lifting of totally incapacitated patients is done only with the help of other employees.
