Position Information

A Medical Examiner's Records Technician reviews, transcribes, compiles and maintains all autopsy and auxiliary medical/investigative reports and records for the Department of the Medical Examiner; provides necessary clerical support services to pathologists; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancy Information:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of the Medical Examiner, located in Honolulu. This position serves as a RECORDS TECHNICIAN of the Department of the Medical Examiner, where postmortem examinations are conducted for medicolegal investigations. Responsibilities of RECORDS TECHNICIANs are extensive due to legal requirements of preservation and distribution of documents and digital data. This position performs accurate transcription of postmortem examination reports, which requires a thorough knowledge of medical, anatomical, pathological, microscopic, microbiological, and toxicological terminology. This position also performs a variety of duties in the department. Performance of the above duties requires incumbents to be physically present on-site where remote work may not be possible.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Five years of clerical or stenographic experience, two of which shall have involved medical transcription, recordkeeping and data compilation work.


Substitution: Business school or college level credits from a regionally-accredited college or university will substitute for up to two years of the required three years of general clerical experience on a month-for-month basis. There is NO substitution for the required two years of medical transcription, recordkeeping and data compilation work.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to education earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your education in order to be given credit for the substitution.
