Job Description
The Medical Assistant / Ortho Technologist is responsible for:
- Assisting the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures as set forth in Summit Health’s Scope of Practice for Casting Technologists
- Create and implement physical rehabilitation plans in collaboration with the physician
- Assisting site supervisor with directing patient flow
- Provide unparalleled customer service to our patients; adhering to established protocols and work processes and successfully managing volume without ever compromising quality
Duties and Responsibilities
The primary duties and responsibilities of a Medical Assistant/Ortho Technologist are:
- Assisting the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures within the Medical Assistant/Casting Technologist Scope of Practice, which may include but is not limited to:
- Assisting the physician in applying casts
- Removing casts
- Assisting patients in the application of prefabricated splints and slings
- Helping maintain a clean, courteous, and professional working environment.
- Providing compassionate care to our patients.
- Implements appropriate strength/mobility programs for patients under supervision of Orthopedist
- Create and update pre and post-operative rehab protocols
- Maintains safe/orderly working environment for patients and staff.
- Maintains accurate documentation consistent with departmental policy.
- Follows departmental infection control policies and procedures when carrying out responsibilities.
- Consistently assesses and modifies approach, communication, care, activities, etc. to reflect the needs of patient based on age, and developmental level.
- Demonstrates and understands the unique needs of patients.
- Participates in the continuing education process (e.g. department specific in-services, and/or programs approved by supervisor).
- Maintains appropriate licensure.
- Develops and maintains working relationships with schools and athletic programs in the area.
Qualifications- A candidate’s qualifications will include:
- Medical Assistant.
- 2 years of Medical Assistant experience in Orthopedics is needed to take the Ortho Tech exam.
- 2-4 years’ experience required. 5-8 years preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Certification by the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (This will need to be obtained within 6 months).
- Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required.
- Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize and comprehend instructions and projects.
- Ability to comprehend and carry out written and verbal instructions.
- Experience with Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) preferred.
