DESCRIPTION:
Medical Assistant/Medical Receptionist is responsible for the following responsibilities:
Precertification Responsibilities
- Review chart documentation to ensure patients meets medical policy guidelines.
- Prioritize incoming authorization requests according to urgency.
- Obtain authorization via payer website or by phone and follow up regularly on pending cases.
- Maintain individual payer files to include up to date requirements needed to successfully obtain authorizations.
- Works closely with billing staff to ensure the efficient processing of all patient demographic information to allow timely coding and billing.
- Initiate appeals for denied authorizations.
- Respond to clinic questions regarding payer medical policy guidelines.
- Confirm accuracy of CPT and ICD-10 diagnoses
- Contact patients to discuss authorization status.
- Other duties as assigned.
Medical Assistant Responsibilities:
- Verifies patient information by triaging patient; recording medical history; confirming chief complaint.
- Prepares patients for examination by performing initial triage: blood pressure, weight, and temperature and reporting patient history summary.
- Maximize physician time by assisting with office procedures.
- Oversees fitting, tracking and distribution of DME supplies in compliance with office policies and federal regulations. Obtains a signed ABN as required.
- Cleaning of rooms after each patient encounter
- Responsible for stocking of patient rooms at the end of day
- Follows office policy and guidelines for collection of UDS.
- Check PDMP and notify provider of any inconsistencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Medical Receptionist Responsibilities:
- Greets patients and visitors in a polite and professional manner.
- Collection and verification of patient demographic information.
- Insurance verification
- Check in/ Check out of patients.
- Oversees scheduling to maintain efficient patient flow.
- Monitors physician block time and makes recommendations for effective utilization.
- Serves as a positive liaison with physician and office personnel.
- Contributes to the revenue cycle by recording and obtaining financial information, recording, and collecting patient payments.
- After patient completion of paperwork, notifies appropriate nursing staff that the patient is present.
- Responsible for ensuring that Pharmaceutical/Equipment Representatives have appropriate badges and do not interfere with patient care or confidentiality.
- Responsible for patient reception area, i.e., orderly, organized and cleanliness, etc.
- Responsible for patient call triage. Reviews messages and communicates with providers via EMR and relays details to patient both during the day, time permitting, and after completed clinic.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of procedure authorization and its direct impact on the practice’s revenue cycle
- Understanding of payer medical policy guidelines while utilizing these guidelines to manage authorizations effectively.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy, specifically musculoskeletal
- Proficient use of CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, and Internet use.
- Detail oriented with above average organizational skills.
- Plans and prioritizes to meet deadlines.
- Excellent customer service skills; communicates clearly and effectively.
- Ability to multitask and work with little supervision while managing a high-volume, time-sensitive workload.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- High School Diploma
- 2 years medical office experience required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 45 per week
