Medical Assistant –Bilingual English/Spanish
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Women’s Health Medical Assistant will be responsible for conducting activities that assist patients and support systems to engage in women’s health activities, including ultrasounds.
The goal of this role is to perform clinical and administrative duties under the direction of the Registered Nurse Manager of Women’s Health. Clinical duties include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination and ultrasounds, assisting ultrasound tech with conducting ultrasounds as needed, scheduling follow up activities and appointments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as a central point of communication for patients, families, visitors and members of the women’s health team related to ultrasound and related services.
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.
- Communicate with patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height
- Explain ultrasound procedures and provide instructions to patients
- Assist ultrasound technician as required. Assist Director of Women’s Health as required.
- Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing, as needed
- Prepare exam rooms for ultrasounds, patient examinations
- Clean and sterilize exam rooms and instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies after ultrasounds and exams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of handling administrative tasks and the information and techniques needed to assist with the provision of ultrasounds and women’s health.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
- Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to endure short, intermittent, and/or long periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties
- Need to travel to off-site locations and attend meetings, workshops, seminars plus travel to other FoundCare departments and FoundCare conference rooms
- Accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, e.g. pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboard, telephone, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program
- Possess 1 to 2 years’ experience as a Women’s Health Medical Assistant
- Ability to interact and work with diverse populations.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous experience in a patient care setting.
- Possess superior organizational, interpersonal, written/verbal communication skills. PC Proficient.
- Knowledge of women’s health issues, pre-natal care, breast and cervical cancer, etc.
- Flexible schedule, allowing for Saturday mornings and/or evenings as needed
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- Bi-Lingual a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to endure short, intermittent, and/or long periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
- Transport him/herself to other departments, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off-site locations to accomplish job responsibilities, attend meetings, workshops, seminars, etc.
