GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Medical Assistant Supervisor works as a member of the care team to provide clinical and administrative support to providers and other health professionals to ensure the seamless flow of patient care. They also provide supervision to the Clinical Team Assistants and Medical Assistants on their care team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: *Clinical:- Participate as a member of the patient care team to provide care to individual patients.
- Perform all tasks on the Medical Assistant checklists. (For MA level I-III)
- Use and demonstrate universal precautions and implement other isolation procedures as appropriate.
- Activate appropriate response system in the event of a medical, psychiatric, or other emergency and effectively utilize safety/emergency equipment.
- Utilize the health center’s established standing orders to provide patient care consistent with clinical guidelines.
Administrative:
- Schedule appointments, radiology appointments, and imaging tests for patients.
- Ensure prior authorizations for imaging are being managed at the care team level in a clinically appropriate time frame.
- Manage care team task box in NextGen ensuring that care team messages are being handled daily.
- Perform appropriate documentation in electronic medical record at the time the service was provided.
- Ensure in-room checkout is occurring for the care team.
- Report laboratory results or messages to the patient per medical provider request.
- Receive and process prescription requests. Process incoming medication samples and check monthly for expired medications. Process requests for samples. Receive and process faxed patient information.
- Properly document vaccines given (in Immpact and NextGen) and ability to reconcile Immpact vaccines at minimum monthly.
- Ensure Pre-visit planning is complete for all providers on the care team.
- Participate in daily huddles and manage the daily work on the clinical care team.
- Use i2i daily reports to ensure compliance with quality measures.
- Log medAccess medications and contact patients accordingly
- Have the necessary training to order laboratory supplies and medical supplies and ensure the care team has the necessary supplies to complete their work.
- High school diploma or equivalent General Education Degree required.
- Training as a Medical Assistant in a recognized program or college required.
- Experience in a medical setting required.
- Experience with electronic medical records, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable office procedures and terminology.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance, and reconcile figures and make changes accurately.
- Knowledge of the pain scale and the “RIGHTS” of medication administration.
- Understand the difference between biohazard and trash.
- Knowledge of universal and standard precautions.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, HMOs, and private insurers.
- Knowledge of how to access Materials Safety Data Sheets online.
- Knowledge of equipment safety.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and time out procedures.
- Knowledge of immunization schedule.
- Knowledge of CLIA waived testing and procedures.
- Bilingual /multilingual in French, Spanish, Arabic, Swahili, or other major languages a strong plus.
