SUMMARY
The Medical Assistantin theMelanoma & Skin Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center acts as lead technical assistant in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures. Impacts patient care to patients in outpatient clinics under defined supervision.
Medical Assistant opportunity in the Melanoma and Skin Center. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and at least one year of Medical Assistant experience; dermatology is a plus. Prefer candidates that are a Certified Medical Assistant.
Shift: typically, Monday-Friday 8am - 4:30pm
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures. Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms. Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests). Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift, and move patients as needed. Cleans, stores, prepares, and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies. Processes all required paperwork. Instruct patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.

EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
EXPERIENCE
Required: One year of Medical Assistant experience. With preferred degree, no experience is required.
Preferred: One year of certified Medical Assistant experience; dermatology experience is a plus

Preferred: Certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT)
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
