Medical Assistant (Hill Country Primary Care)

Job Summary:

UT Health Hill Country is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant with outstanding clinical knowledge and organizational skills, and with a passion for teamwork and patient experience, to care for the Primary Care Clinic patients in our community. This team member will work collaboratively and proactively with providers in caring for their patients.

Under general supervision, responsible for performing a wide variety of medical and clinical support functions in an outpatient clinical settings. May assist with clinical and laboratory procedures, maintain equipment, provide direct patient care, and administer common medications according to unit guidelines and providers' orders. May support the documentation of patients as dictated by the physician or provider.

Job Duties:

1. Intakes patients by obtaining vital signs, weight, etc.

2. Obtains history, chief complaint, medications, allergies, EKG, etc. and documents appropriately in the Electronic medical record.

3. Report all pertinent findings to Physicians.

4. Manages patient’s appointments according to the doctor’s schedules and protocols.

5. Medications/refills and facilitates patient needs, and documents all communication into the EMR system.

6. Answers messages from patients by clinic policy.

7. Handle all medication refills or request via clinic policy.

8. Prepares charts as necessary for next scheduled clinic, provide physician with all necessary test results, lab results and medical records as requested.

9. Communicate all necessary patient information to physician in a timely manner.

10. Handles and answers external as well as internal phone calls and assists in department call center transferring calls to the appropriate departments.

11. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

High school diploma or GED and graduation from a Medical Assistant program is required.

Experience:

Three (3) years of directly-related experience as a Medical Assistant is required.

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

CPR certification is required. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification is preferred.

Benefits Overview

Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.

Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:

Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.

Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.

Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.

Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year plus three floating holidays, which can be used anytime during the fiscal year.

FSAs- Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.
