Job description

Job Title: Medical Assistant (MA)

The MA is a certified Medical Assistant functioning under the Medical Direction of Convenient MD. The MA is provided with the education and skills of medication administration, patient education, and general clinical skills. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for working alongside all other clinical team members to complete all shared clinical responsibilities and tasks within their scope of practice.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Patient triage, to include but not limited to: vital signs; medical history; observational examination.
  2. Assist with any and all patient exams, testing and procedures under the direction of the provider (i.e. I&Ds, pelvic exams, splinting, casting, joint injection preparation, etc.)
  3. Assist with the following testing & procedures:
  1. Vision testing
  2. Hearing/audiometry testing
  3. Urine drug screen testing
  4. Breath alcohol testing
  5. Lift testing
  6. Peak flow testing
  7. Pulmonary function testing (spirometry)
  8. Impact Testing
  9. Ear Irrigation
  10. Eye wash flushing
  11. Wound soaking and cleansing
  12. Tuberculosis screening
  13. Point of care testing: Strep, FLU, RSV, SARs-CoV-2, Capillary Glucose, Mono, HCG, Urinalysis, FOBT/Guaiac, Lipid Panel (obtained via CardioChek Analyzer), Chemistry & CBC
  1. Sterile technique in wound care management, dressing application, trauma patients, burn care and instrument cleaning and sterilization
  2. Suture & staple removal from simple incisions/lacerations if competency has been demonstrated per new hire competency checklist AND RN or Provider has assessed & given approval for removal
  3. Blood draw/phlebotomy
  4. IV removal after competency has been demonstrated per new hire competency checklist
  5. Airway management through nebulizer treatment, oral suctioning, oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway, oxygen administration & ventilation with AMBU bag
  6. Cardiac Management through application of 12 Lead ECG, CPR-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and defibrillation by AED
  7. Prepare PD-Rx medications for dispensing by appropriate team member (ME & NH)
  8. Administration of immunizations
  9. Medication administration as outlined by the CMD Medical Assistant scope of practice; all medication calculations must be double checked by licensed personnel (RN or provider) unless pre-packaged doses.
  10. Administration of hot & cold packs
  11. Assist with patient call backs to include, but not limited to, answering of patient questions within scope, reporting test results, medication/therapy changes.
  12. Assist with phone screening for patients in cars or in rooms with potential COVID in order to limit exposure.
  13. Assist with calling in written prescriptions to patient requested pharmacy (excludes narcotics).
  14. Reporting of Communicable Diseases
  15. Ensures operation of clinical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; calling for repairs or reporting repair needs to clinic PM
  16. Assists in maintaining adequate clinical supplies inventory by checking & notating when stock levels are low
  17. Keeps work area and exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly
  18. Maintains accurate, complete records & reports
  19. Documents patient education and care in EMR and all other applicable areas
  20. Interact with patients in a positive and helpful manner, provide information and assistance as needed
  21. Maintains confidentiality with all patient information by upholding HIPAA laws and rules
  22. Complies with all ConvenientMD policies, protocols & procedures
  23. Participate in the training of new team members.
  24. Other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:
  1. Two years of experience preferred; urgent care, ED or primary care experience preferred
  2. Graduate of Medical Assistant program with active Certified Medical Assistant License/Registered MA License
  3. AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification Preferred; American Red Cross BLS Certification Accepted
  4. Must be able to work 12hr shifts and weekends

Physical Requirements:
  1. Requires the ability to stand and sit for hours at a time. Some bending and stooping is required.
  2. Must be able to use manual dexterity in relation to clinical requirements.
  3. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
