Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision, performs administrative and certain clinical duties. Handles front office duties which include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing and coding for insurance purposes. Assists in the clinic by taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination and drawing blood.
All Coastal Health District, County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
1. Assists in administration of medications and treatments, takes vital signs, and/or draws blood or collects other bodily fluids, as directed by a physician or nurse
3. Order and maintain inventory supplies.
4. Documents and inputs laboratory results and data in the record appropriately.
5. Tracks medication and maintains required reports.
6. Sends reminders of scheduled appointments and notices of missed appointments to clients.
7. Establishes and maintains logically organized filing and record keeping system that can be used by other department members with little difficulty.
8. Ensures all files contain all appropriate documents.
9. Maintains confidentiality of records as necessary and follows department policy regarding release of information.
10. Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in clients' conditions
Minimum Qualifications
Vocational/Technical degree in medical assisting from an accredited college AND One year of related experience OR High school diploma or GED AND Two years of related experience.
