Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, responsible for general clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms at an outpatient care site. May perform some administrative duties and support the documentation of patient records as dictated by the physician or provider.
Job Duties:
1. Calls patient to triage area to take vital signs, completes assessments and document in EMR/chart.
2. Calls patient to triage area to take vital signs, complete assessments and update patient charts.
3. Prepares patients as needed for examination.
4. Maintains patient flow in and out of exam room, prepares patients as needed for examination to ensure patients are seen in a timely manner.
5. Draws blood, gives injections and performs minor exam procedures.
6. Processes labs and delivers appropriately.
7. May document patient exams in electronic health record, noting specifically the exam components, diagnoses, treatment plans, orders, and medications.
8. Cleans and prepares examination rooms prior to patient appointments.
9. Assists in maintaining the medical inventory and placing orders for new materials as needed.
10. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education:
High school diploma or GED and graduation from a Medical Assistant program is required.
Experience:
None.
Additional Licenses and Certifications:
CPR certification is required. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification is preferred.
