As a Medical Assistant | Referral Coordinator, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks related to patient care management, organization, and communication, supporting both the healthcare provider and patients. Essential Job Duties:
- Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries.
- Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
- Adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; drawing blood; preparing patients for x-rays; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings.
- Conducting occupational health tests, including Audiometry, Spirometry, and fit testing.
- Assist providers with workers' compensation injuries, administer first aid, and conduct drug screening and alcohol collection.
- Maintain accurate records of all collections.
- Assist in scheduling appointments and coordinating services with other healthcare providers.
- Track and complete referrals in coordination with adjusters and outside vendors.
- Communicate test results to patients and healthcare providers as directed.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and proper storage of PHI.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Coordinate clinic logistics and equipment setup and breakdown at various work sites; travel to different work sites as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating motivation, reliability, organization, and punctuality.

Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Medical Assistant Certificate preferred.
- Current American Heart Association BLS Certification.
Education, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Completion of Medical Assistant coursework from an accredited program.
- High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
- Prior experience in an occupational health setting preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with electronic medical records.
- Current driver license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel, as required.
Physical Demands:
The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time to perform various tasks. It also involves lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Good dexterity and handeye coordination are essential for handling equipment and performing precise tasks. The role may involve repetitive tasks, requiring the candidate to have the physical capability to carry them out effectively. Additionally, good visual acuity is necessary for reading and accurately recording information. The candidate should be able to bend, kneel, and reach to access and handle materials and equipment. Excellent mobility is needed to move around the clinic and perform examinations efficiently. The role may occasionally require working in confined spaces, which the candidate should be comfortable with.
