Title: Medical Assistant
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm Mon-Fri
Location: Mooresville, NC
Job Description:
- Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts prior to appointment with recent test results, correspondence, and determines needed services per practice protocol.
- Confer with providers regarding any incomplete patient tests/consults or other incomplete orders prior to patient visit.
- Prepare patients for examination/treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room, obtaining appropriate vital signs, and taking histories.
- Prepare, clean, and maintain exam/treatment rooms.
- Prepare appropriate in house and send out testing.
- Given injections, perform EKG’s, OB/GYN exams and office procedures as needed. Provide other patient care services as directed by the provider.
- Call patients with test results and follow up care or instructions per providers order within practice protocols.
- Complete tasks in clinical/provider buckets daily.
- Assist with Prior Authorizations, pre-certifications, and scheduling radiologic procedures.
- Assist with FMLA and disability forms.
- Administer medications upon provider’s order.
- Respond to medication requests per practice protocol.
- Prepare and maintain clinical supplies and equipment.
- Ability to sash, sanitize, and package instruments following office protocols.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Create, maintain, copy and file patient records and other information as needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Treat staff, physicians, mid-level providers, visitors, and patients with dignity and respect.
- May be asked to perform other work-related duties as required
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED with current certification
- Knowledge of medical practice and care.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions.
- Ability to assist in a variety of common office procedures.
- Ability to take manual vital signs.
- Ability to maintain records and record test results.
- Ability to use good reasoning and judgement to react calmly to emergency situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively orally and in written language.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
- Proficiency in the operation of a computer keyboard.
- Sit for extended periods of time, push, pull, reach, bed, sit, stoop and stretch.
- Have a full range of body motion; including handling and lifting patients.
- Ability to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and medical equipment.
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
