  • Responsibilities

    SUMMARY The Associate Director, Donor Relations is responsible for planning, executing and continually improving the law school's donor relations program, which creates opportunity for engagement with its generous donors.

    This position is instrumental in implementing a comprehensive stewardship plan to build donor trust through consistent and meaningful contacts. The Associate Director will regularly assess the performance of the law school's donor relations efforts, which includes events, donor/student meetings, gift acknowledgement, publications, and a wide variety of recognition opportunities based on industry standards and best practices.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Thorough knowledge of development and all aspects of donor relations, with deep understanding of stewardship concepts and best practices.

    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with coworkers and as well as donors, faculty, and students; must have demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and discretion.

    Work independently to develop a donor stewardship matrix, outlining recommended communications and recognition opportunities for gifts of all levels.

    Create new and inventive strategies for donor engagement through various donor societies.

    Ability to lead the development of stewardship materials and publications, collaborating closely with Marketing and Communications staff and front line fundraisers, bringing donor relations expertise and perspective to ensure each piece of collateral is integrated into the overall donor relations and recognition strategy.

    Exceptional writing skills with an eye for creativity and great attention to detail.

    Ability to craft compelling donor communications, including but not limited to meaningful and engaging acknowledgement letters, fund activity reports, endowment reports, and progress reports.

    Collaborate with the database team to ensure a seamless and efficient gift acknowledgement process.

    Establish a collaborative relationship with the Financial Aid and the Business Office to ensure free flowing exchange of information between the departments.

    Exercise independent judgement in collecting and analyzing information on scholarship awards and recipients in order to create accurate fund activity reports.

    Create and implement the annual recognition name mailing for the Donor Honor Roll and ensure that the donor's wishes are accurately reflected in all print materials.

    Oversee the creative development and installation of donor signage, ensuring proper levels of recognition on pieces like individual plaques, giving society signage, and the campaign donor wall.

    Manage holiday and birthday greetings to donors, alumni, and friends of the school.

    High organizational ability, adherence to strict deadlines, and ability to manage concurrent projects and priorities.

    Solid computer skills, including knowledge of common donor databases, such as Raiser's Edge, and productivity tools within the Microsoft Office suite.

    Exercise utmost discretion and good judgment in working with all students, alumni, and donor data; comply with FERPA regulations in sharing information about students.

    Proven analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

    Undertake and manage special projects as assigned.

    Complies with all aspects of the law school’s Customer Service Standards.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of five years professional experience in Advancement/Philanthropy, preferably in higher education.

    LANGUAGE SKILL

    Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to students, alumni, law firms, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write correspondence.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to perform basic math essentials.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when department head may be out of office or unavailable. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread; distance vision in order to recognize and assist visitors to the department.

    Fast paced, multi-tasking, non-smoking work environment. Must be able to work the general business schedule of the law school (9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) plus evenings and weekends as needed. Some travel as required.

    2. Skills and Experience:1. 5-8 years of media strategy ( _ current title should be Sr. Media Planner or greater_ ).2. Digital experience preferred.3.
