Job Description

The post-bac fellow for MAS will be a recent graduate of the MAS program who works full-time as a staff member and is supervised by one of the MAS co-directors. They will manage the Playable Media Lab, Media Arts Lab and HCI Lab, which involve specialized equipment and require ongoing student supervision / guidance for project work. They will provide peer mentoring of current and potential MAS students through one-on-one consultations and group information sessions / workshops. They will also support the faculty with various activities associated with the ongoing Self Study process.

Primary Position Responsibilities

Provide teaching and technical support for students and faculty in the MAS program. Supplement advising for MAS students - in particular supporting students' portfolio development and other senior capstone activities / requirements. Maintain and supervise the student and course-related utilization of equipment in the Playable Media Lab, the Media Arts Lab and the HCI Lab in dialogue with faculty and staff overseeing these areas. Create a sense of community and cohesion within the MAS major and in dialogue with related majors Support the MAS program self-study effort. This includes, but is not limited to, data collection / analysis, conducting student focus groups and reaching out to MAS alums.

Performance Profile

1. Assigned technology and lab resources are well maintained and supported; faculty relying on these spaces are kept abreast of emerging issues and potential difficulties.

2. Consultations with students not only address specific project needs but also diverse learning styles. A wide range of MAS students are able to access and use relevant technologies and lab spaces safely.

3. This position is aware of and advocates for the needs of the MAS community.

4. Participates in planning and data collection related to the MAS self study and upcoming external review.

5. Effectively problem-solves and collaborates with other members of the staff

Education Required
  • Recent Wellesley graduate.


Experience Required
  • B.A. with experience in Media Arts & Sciences
  • Comfortable mentoring individuals and small/medium groups.
  • Experience leading technology projects
  • Experience working with MAS-related technology
  • Evidence of repeatedly learning and applying new technologies


Skills and Abilities Required
  • Knowledge of both Windows and Macintosh operating systems and applications.
  • Familiarity with specific MAS technologies including software, hardware and peripherals.
  • Ability to acquire new skills.
  • Ability to move quickly between tasks and technical environments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive learning spaces


Other

The current MAS co-director on the CS side will be the primary supervisor of this position. The focus of lab support for this position will be on the technology-based labs associated with the program (Playable Media Lab, HCI Lab, and Media Arts Lab), splitting their time roughly evenly between these three spaces (3.5 days in SCI and 1.5 days in JAC/PNW).
