At MEDC, we help Michiganders prosper by investing in our businesses and communities, enabling the growth of good jobs, and promoting Michigan’s reputation as a world-class business location and travel destination. By joining our team, you will play an integral role in directly supporting Michigan’s success, where you work, live and play. Come be part of the team as the Chief Innovation Ecosystem Officer.

The Chief Innovation Ecosystem Officer (CIEO) will oversee and direct the development, improvement, and sustainability of the rapidly growing Michigan innovation economy. With a focus on transforming Michigan’s manufacturing, automotive, and technology roots, this position requires a strategic and operational leader that brings together the innovation efforts underway and creates a holistic and inclusive innovation vision for the State. The CIEO will collaborate with key players to identify Innovation Ecosystem gaps and will be empowered to seek funding and implement initiatives to address the state’s innovation challenges. The CIEO will support the programs and policies that will enable the most innovative start-ups to grow, help growing companies scale, create a vibrant ecosystem for investors and founders, and build greater connectivity between the transformational processes occurring at the state’s research universities and the state’s economic development goals. This leader will be the chief spokesperson, marketing Michigan's Innovation Ecosystem to the world. Within government, the CIEO will be an integrator, staying attuned across policy areas (e.g., tax, workforce, incentive) with the acuity to advocate for policies that will support innovation. As a subject matter expert, the CIEO will be expected to serve as an advisor to the highest priority initiatives for MEDC and the cross-agency executive leadership team (including the Office of the Governor).
