TRUMPF is seeking candidates for an internship in the Sales Management Department at our Santa Clara, CA location. This internship will provide a college-level student with practical and professional experience that will enhance and compliment their classroom learning. This internship will be August 2023 to December 2023 for at least 32 hours a week.
Summary
TRUMPF, Inc., the world's largest industrial laser manufacturer, is looking for a Mechatronics Engineering Intern to join the Laser Applications Lab in Santa Clara, CA. The Lab is expanding, and we are looking for someone to help with equipment set-up, programming, basic research duties and special materials study projects. The Mechatronics Engineering Intern will receive exposure to the use of CW, nano-second and ultrafast lasers and applications in an industrial environment including optics use, laser process development, equipment programming, metrology, and laser safety. Available part-time now and full time during the summer break, this could be ideal for someone currently enrolled in a South Bay/Silicon Valley university in an upper division Bachelor's, or Master's, or Doctorate level degree program.
Mechatronics Engineering Intern Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of an applications engineer, perform basic engineering and scientific responsibilities such as equipment programming, lab layout, data collection, process work, and documentation.
- Participate as a multidisciplinary engineering team member
- Use laser scanning and confocal microscopes to document application test results
- Creating written instructions, documentation of procedures and application lab reports
- Assist with ultrafast, CW and nanosecond laser application tests and process development
- Preparation of Excel spreadsheets for calculations and basic optical modeling
- Basic software programming for operating motion controller and laser scanner
Qualifications
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is required. Strong inter-personal communication skills and ability to work as a team player.
Education & Experience
- Enrolled in a 4-year program with a STEM major
- Proficiency with basic Office Productivity software (Excel) needed.
- A science, engineering, mechatronics or other technical background capable of learning optics, programming, and microscope use is required.
- Solid Works, Python and G-code programming experience desirable.
- Optics or laser experience is a plus.
