Mechatronics Engineer (Saugerties, NY)
The Mechatronics Engineer is responsible for designing/engineering custom mechatronic systems, mechanical concepts, and products for both existing and new products, which includes the integration of translating stages, rotary motion, multi-link positioners, sensors, servos, actuators, etc.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work interactively in cross functional teams to produce new products and improve existing products.  Integration of control systems for industrial robotics into tools/equipment, including all aspects such as dynamics, end-effector design, controls, etc.

  • Ensure designs meet product specifications and comply with industry and regulatory standards.

  • Lead the vision for the system and the integration of Mechanical, Electrical, and other engineering with the Mechatronics.

  • Design and document using Edwards or customer design process and CAD systems.

  • Create designs and operations to be used in a clean manufacturing environment.

  • Analyze and improve dynamic robotic systems, and design path optimization algorithms and associated controls.

  • Make a work breakdown and planning as part of a project.

  • Maintain high quality level by organizing reviews of own work, and participating in reviews from other design engineers.

  • Produce presentation and documentation as needed for engineering and customer reviews of design work.

  • Work with other functions to develop test requirement and build documentation to ensure quality and functionality of products.

  • Support manufacturing in troubleshooting issues during first article builds and integration into existing products.

  • Identify key risks in designs or product.  Work with team on mitigation plans and/or prototype tests to reduce/eliminate risk of mechanical designs not meeting requirements/industry standards. Analyze designs to determine potential risks, failure modes, and corrective actions.

  • Participate and support quality processes such as DFMEA, PFMEA, 8D, etc.

  • Run complex mechatronic systems for test and qualification of design changes.

  • Engage with team to proactively participate in continuous improvement efforts.

  • Work with other functions to coordinate effort to support business needs.

  • Maintains a professional manner to enhance the company's image with customers.

  • Attend and participate in customer, departmental or company meetings.

  • Complete routine tasks according to departmental policies and procedures.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Detail oriented, logical thinker, with the ability to work independently on multiple competing priorities with moderate supervision in a professional engineering environment.

  • Extensive knowledge and work experience of Mechatronics engineering, design, and analysis standards and practices, which includes translating stages, rotary motion, multi-link positioners, sensors, servos, actuators, end-effector design, path optimization algorithms and associated controls, etc. and documentation.

  • Proven ability to perform effectively in a demanding environment with changing workloads and deadlines.

  • Result driven-demonstrate ownership and accountability.

  • Work according to a strict set of procedures within the provided timelines.

  • NX, Solidworks, AutoCAD, PLM, SAP knowledge, and experience engineering to SEMI Standards are a plus.

  • Self-motivated team player with strong desire to learn and ability to handle multiple projects and tasks concurrently and with minimal guidance.

  • Strong customer focus and commitment to customer satisfaction through prioritization, quality, efficiency and professionalism.

  • Ability to interact with customers and outside vendors.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experienced/advanced working knowledge of Office Suite, MS Project, and related communication applications.

  • Good foresight and strong analytical thinking skills.

  • Quick learner; and apply new information and skills.

  • Ability to prioritize activities and deliver projects on time.

  • Be willing to work flexible hours.

  • Able/available to travel within the US; 5% travel can be expected.

 

Education, Cerifications, and Experience: 

  • BS Degree or higher degree in a relevant Engineering field (Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.).  Equivalent work experience, or a combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in mechatronics engineering

  • Additional specialization in closely related areas such as robotics, sensor applications, or other fields.

  • Semiconductor equipment design experience, with a focus on mechatronics design engineering preferred.

  • Exposure to multi-disciplinary projects, such as imaging/optical systems, semiconductor, or lithography preferred but not required.

  • Experience with PID controllers, linear and nonlinear calibrations, and flexible dynamics.

  • Experience designing complex mechanisms such as robot grippers, end effectors, sensing development, etc.

  • Experience/demonstrate strong technical writing and communication skills in English, including presenting results based on supported statistical evidence to audiences of a wide range of technical abilities.

  • Experience with mechatronics behavior predictive modeling and methods: ability to apply "classical control theory" and "digital control theory" including frequency domain, stability analysis, Nyquist/Bode plots, Velocity-Acceleration-Jerk (VAJ), feedback/feedforward, dynamics, gain and phase, transfer functions, continuous/discrete feedback control, real time controls, etc.
