The CNS (Communication, Navigation & Surveillance) Mechanical Engineering Group in Melbourne, Florida is seeking to fill a Mechanical Engineering Intern position for summer of 2024.  The primary responsibility for this position will be to assist CNS mechanical engineers in providing design engineering support for products in production.  These products include avionics equipment composed of circuit card assemblies, metallic housings, heatsinks, and electromagnetic interference shielding. Duties may include investigation and resolution of production build issues, design-related tasks, and configuration research. The intern will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of and participate in the Mechanical Engineering sub-discipline of Electronics Packaging.

This role is based out of our Melbourne, FL site location; may be eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working with cross-functional teams to develop solutions to production and field problems.
  • Utilize CAD system (Siemens NX) to research product designs and troubleshoot issues.
  • Support analytical activities such as Thermal, Structural or Tolerance Analyses.
  • Supporting design mockups and 3D printing prototype parts.
  • Assisting in environmental testing (vibration, temperature, humidity).
  • Researching product configuration changes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of initial Mechanical Engineering courses.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 of above.
  • Rising junior or senior status by summer 2024.

The salary range for this role is 52,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
