Job description

The Kankakee Flooring Plant team has a job opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Intern located in Kankakee, IL. The Mechanical Engineering Intern is responsible for laying out, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying the mechanical and controls aspects of production equipment, and facility systems according to engineering instructions and supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Assist with the editing, reviewing, and submittal of drawings.
  • Construction of drawing database.
  • Assist with the editing, reviewing, and submittal of drawings.

  • Construction of a drawing database
  • Assist with creation of preventative maintenance plans, one-point lessons, and technical documentation for equipment to support ongoing maintenance activities.
  • Understands and applies the knowledge and skills needed to do the job to include the following:

    • Basic AutoCad Skills
    • Basic mechanical skills
    • Some understanding of proper lubrication.
    • Ability to read mechanical prints
    • Good technical writing ability and verbal communication skills
    • Supports organizational initiatives in a professional manner
    • Other duties as assigned

  • Perform tasks in accordance with proven skill levels as directed by Engineering Manager.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement, also provides suggestions to improve processes and participates on team projects.
  • Work cooperatively with production staff to accomplish tasks and achieve departmental goals.
  • Maintain property, plant, and equipment to support and improve the safe production and performance of the operations.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams with different opinions to gain consensus on the correct strategy.
  • Proven ability to recognize potential safety hazards and develop an engineering solution to eliminate.
  • Ability to work self-directed with limited resources and able to meet challenging timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence upper management and gain buy in from shop floor end users.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to always maintain appropriate confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working towards a Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Project management skills, including the ability to define problems, lead teams, prioritize tasks, and deliver results.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
