Volta Labs is building a suite of genomics applications for our first-of-its-kind digital fluidics sample prep automation platform. Our technology will remove the need for laborious sample setup, provide a technology-agnostic suite, and shorten sample processing time from hours to seconds. THE ROLE:
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work hands-on with our engineering team to maintain, repair, and improve Volta’s instruments. This is a full-time summer internship based at our office in the Boston Seaport. This internship is perfect for someone looking to grow as an engineer, work in a collaborative startup environment, and make an impact on the future of genomics.
DAY TO DAY WORK:
- Support the engineering team in the prototyping, manufacturing, maintenance, and assembly of Volta’s instruments
- Perform calibration, quality control, and repairs on Volta’s instruments
- Conduct R&D experiments on Volta’s instruments
- Document any operations and testing executed on the instruments
- Support the manufacturing team by making improvements to our in-house assembly line
- Design jigs, fixtures, and test stands
- Support the engineering team in other development activities
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to commute to Boston Seaport office 5 days/week
- Experience designing and prototyping electromechanical systems
- Familiarity with prototyping equipment (for example hand tools, laser cutter, 3D printing, soldering, waterjet, etc.)
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment with rapidly changing priorities
- Proactive team player who can complete a wide variety of tasks and can prioritize their time well
- Experience in biology is not required.
