SalaryJob Title: Mechanical Designer
Reports To: Mechanical Design Leader
Summary: The designer position has the responsibility of designing automated and manual fixtures for Body-In-White applications (Resistance Welding) and Frame Line (MIG Welding) fixtures. All fixtures will be developed using 3D solid models with constraints. The designer must be able to create all CAD files to the customer standards including 3D models, layouts, details and bill of materials.
Responsibilities:
- Design clamps, stationary pin units, retractable pin units, slides ad dumps
- Design compound units with assistance
- Understand the benefits of Lean Manufacturing
- Understand MIG weld torch angle requirements for clearance checks
- Create 2D drawing package for manufacturing with little to no errors
- Create Bill of Materials (BOM’s) for manufacturing
- Understand all file attributing required to release tools into ERP system
- Understand and utilize all the latest file check and design assist programs
- Understand tolerances and proper material uses
- Read and understand GD&T drawings
- Create component buyoff sheets
- Create and understand Request for Wiring Diagrams (RWD’s)
- Preform basic engineering calculations to verify design integrity
- Perform all other duties within capabilities, as assigned
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- 2+ years’ work-related experience
- Working knowledge of the industry safety and ergonomic standards
- Experience designing Body-In-White weld fixtures (Resistance Welding) preferred
- Experience with either Unigraphics, Catia, Inventor or AutoCAD
- Understands mechanical design and plant layout validation
- Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Work Environment: This position operates in an office environment.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and be present on the plant floor or customer facility.
Expected Hours of Work: This position will require daily overtime hours and weekend work.
Travel: Some travel is required for attending meetings at multiple sites (Paslin and/or customer) to support installation.
