Job description

A shop hourly position with the primary responsibilities to plan, organize, and direct work activities for a small team of Assembly, Tri-Armor, and Welding personnel.  As a senior mechanic, The Mechanic I is an influencer, who leads junior mechanics or teams as assigned and demonstrates BAC’s values of Customer Focus, Teamwork, Leading Change, Execution, and Collaboration. The Mechanic I will also be required to train and mentor junior mechanics and assist the department leadership team with daily assignments as directed.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Plan, organize, and direct activities in the Pan and Tri-Armor Departments; Responsible for coordinating the on-time delivery of Pan’s to all assembly lines in partnership with the day time Station Leader.
  • Responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly sign-off of the TriArmor work procedure checklist.
  • Provide oversight and guidance for the welding passivation process in the Pan Department; Maintain proper inventory of consumables in partnership with the Station Leader.
  • Ensure all Pans are tested in line with BAC’s quality requirements.
  • Train and develop junior mechanics to achieve technical and professional expertise.
  • Continually evaluate and develop new ways to improve the department.
  • Ensure open and clear communication to department employees.
  • Counsel employees and provide corrective and supportive instruction to those who fail to meet quality, safety, or productivity standards.
  • Assist with the completion of ongoing training for all employees in the following areas: safety, quality / ISO procedures, production goals and equipment cross training.
  • Assist with the completion of detailed accident investigation reports for all accidents, which occur, in the Pan and TriArmor areas.
  • Mentors and drives LEAN principles in the area.
  • Meet or exceed production goals for shift.
  • Support a passion for safety and drive departmental safety initiatives.
  • Practice and sustain 5’s methodology.
  • Aggressively uphold and support quality and process standards.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed and assigned.

 

 NATURE & SCOPE

This position reports to the Station Leader and Team Leader of the department.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Ability to work independently and exhibits sound judgment.
  • Ability to lead small groups.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior mechanics.
  • Basic understanding of the Pan Welding Process.
  • Knowledge of the welding passivation process and any related EPA regulations.
  • Good knowledge of the TriArmor spray booth operation, including but not limited to, EPA regulations, safety hazards, and operation of equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret all types of BAC shop documents – Submittals, Fabrication Sheets, Assembly Lists (BoM’s), and Work Orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Ability to read measuring devices: weld gage, inclinometer & tape measure.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate JIB and overhead cranes; achieved through required certification.
  • Working command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Effective written communication including documentation of processes, and the communication of those processes with fellow mechanics. Ability to communicate to supervisors and co-workers with written memos or emails that are professional, concise and clearly understood.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills including the ability to communicate professionally with BAC customer and co-workers.  The ability to share information verbally that is clearly understood and technically accurate.
  • Demonstrate strong skills in initiative, problem solving, and working in a “team” environment.
  • Working knowledge of computers including word processing, spreadsheets and databases, i.e., Word, Excel, Peoplesoft, Internet, and ADI.
  • Ability to understand and react to job schedules.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Production Light system.
  • High level of product knowledge of BAC’s numerous models and parts.
  • Competency with MS Excel including updating data and generating metrics in pre-formatted spreadsheets.
  • Understands and adheres to LEAN principles in the area.
  • Familiar with all appropriate procedures, policies, and instructions of ISO for area of assignment to ensure quality.
