Meat Clerk Job Description
The Meat Stocker at Wheatsfield Cooperative is responsible for assisting the Meat Manager in keeping the meat case fully stocked and cleaned. This position is responsible for providing customers with culinary and nutritional information about meats, as well as meat samples as appropriate.
The Meat Stocker position is part-time (under 30) hours per week and reports to the Meat Manager.
Responsibilities
1. Customer Service:
a. Greet customers in a friendly manner; responds quickly and courteously to all requests from customers
b. Answer product questions
c. Take the initiative to increase product knowledge about meat
d. Adhere to all Wheatsfield Customer Service policies
e. Know store layout and keeps in touch with the products we carry and refers customers to correct resources when necessary
f. Cut and wrap custom sizes of meat as requested by customers
g. Educate customers about meat, pairings, recipes etc.
h. Offer samples to customers as appropriate and incorporate an active sampling program into the meat department
2. Meat Cutting and Packaging
a. Knowledge of basic meat types and cuts
b. Develop time management skills to maximize time spent packaging meat, and develop speed in the cutting process
c. Ability to load labels and use scale, including entering new items
d. Be well versed in safe cutting techniques
e. Ability to wrap meat in an attractive and sanitary manner
f. Cut, wrap, and price sufficient quantities of meat to keep the case full
g. Package meat products
h. “Rescue” potential meat shrink for use in Deli
i. Frequently clean and sanitize all equipment, including coolers, knives, cutting boards, etc.
3. Merchandising
a. Fill and merchandise set according to customer demand and season
b. Face sales floor frequently during shift
c. Display meat so it sells and is easy for customer to find
d. Change signs and educate consumers about meat
4. Other responsibilities
a. Becomes familiar with and able to explain membership simply, efficiently, and completely
b. Becomes familiar with the products carried at Wheatsfield and where they are located throughout the store. Gather product information from experienced staff, customers and various reference materials
c. Works shifts as assigned, informing the Store Manager of any difficulties in working your assigned shift as soon as possible
d. Arrives at work for your shift allowing enough time to clock-in at the assigned time and be on the floor ready to begin your shift
e. Adheres to store policy governing the use and payment of house charges
f. Attends and participates in mandatory staff and department meetings as scheduled
g. Uses store computers for business use only
h. Keeps supervisor informed of any problems or ideas
i. Helps customers with special and case orders
j. Knows and follows store policies and procedures
k. Helps with other tasks as deemed necessary by the Store Manager
l. Train other people in meat responsibilities if this is ever necessary
m. Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
General sign-off: The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
