ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Purchase perishables/mixed meats (processed and fresh) at the most favorable terms for the organization.
- Track purchases, monitor vendor quality, and maintain a current database of vendor information. Analyze performance of existing vendors and items.
- Manage and negotiate the cost and pricing of products ensuring that the most competitive prices are secured.
- Negotiate and manage inventory levels of multiple loads, oversee delivery schedules and seasonal merchandise.
- Research availability of products, analyze market conditions, seasonal factors, and consumer preferences and pricing. Investigate potential promotional items, vendors, and new items.
- Supervise preparation of purchase orders from requisitions.
- Monitor sales and margins.
- Review daily meat receiving, accounts payable vouchers, and supplier invoices for accuracy.
- Build displays according to movement, promotions, profitability, value, and regional guidance.
- Manage relationships with Strategic Vendor Partners and garners support (financial, resources) to sustain the strategic vision.
- Develop Category Business Plans (CBP) for managed categories.
- Direct the efforts of the merchandising category to stay on course with strategies and financials.
- Work collaboratively with all team members to create effective vendor relationships; establish strategic relations with key suppliers and manage vendor funding to drive profitable category growth.
- Responsible for determining all items that will be carried; review full assortment and develop plan that addresses consumer needs and local relevance.
- Work in collaboration with other departments to collect category performance feedback and assist merchandising planning and development for assigned categories based on store clusters and ethnicity information.
- Approve section sizes and adjacencies in schematic plans for individually managed categories.
Create, develop, and recommend business cases for capital expenditures (shelving, fixtures, and store layout) to present to Senior Management; approve all pricing recommendations. - Assist with vendor relations, negotiate terms, and manage funds for individually managed categories on a national scale; approve national contracts and present them to Senior Management for sign off; visit vendors on a regular basis.
- Assist in the approval of all support area recommendations (marketing, merchandising, pricing, promotional planning, and quality assurance)
- Performing other duties common to management may be assigned by senior management as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in product negotiation and procurement.
- Three (3) years+ of progressive experience as a successful Meat Department Manager or Meat Specialist/Merchandiser is desirable.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of supplier and logistic systems, as well as knowledge of the federal grade/product standards and regulations.
- Understanding of store operations and merchandising methodologies and practices.
- Ability to integrate with local management, be part of a team, and drive business results.
- Ability to be persuasive and relentless in reinforcing the best interests of the company.
- Effective communicator, particularly when it comes to discussing Human Resources/Compliance matters with management or regular employees.
- Must have a great deal of integrity.
- Ability to work well under pressure and multitask.
