Meals On Wheels Delivery Driver

Meals on Wheels Delivery Drivers make a difference in the lives of the senior population! Not only do Drivers deliver a nutritious meal to help seniors remain independent in their homes, they provide one-on-one contact with individuals who may have few other daily social contacts. Our Meals on Wheels Delivery Drivers don't think of this as a job, but as a mission in helping others!

Neighborhood House is seeking Meals on Wheels Drivers for the Peoria area. The hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to generally 1:30 p.m. Candidates must be available to work the days and hours as listed.

The Driver will help package meals in preparation of delivery, deliver meals within expected time frames following a set route, communicate with clients upon delivery, notate undelivered meals, and keep an accurate mileage record. The Driver will utilize their personal vehicle (a mileage reimbursement is provided) to deliver meals. The Driver is expected to maintain client, employee, and program confidentiality, and have the ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse staff and community.

Candidate requirements:

• A reliable, insured vehicle
• 18 years of age or older
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Two years of professional driving or delivery experience preferred but not required
• Complete a criminal background and motor vehicle record check
• Must be comfortable driving in all weather conditions
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to walk considerable distance in all weather conditions, on all terrain, and climb stairs
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over a short distance, or lift up to 50 pounds to place items on a cart to transport in lieu of carrying - additional assistance with lifting can typically be accommodated
• Be willing to obtain a food handler’s certificate after hire
