Job Summary:

The Engine Design and Systems Integration (EDSI) Digital organization is looking for the next Discipline Chief for Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). A candidate for this role should demonstrate strong technical leadership to help position the sub-discipline of MBSE to support the broader Systems Engineering organization with emphasis on digital transformation, discipline health, and the development of practitioner proficiency.

 

In this role, the Discipline Chief will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and communicating the availability of new or improved Engineering Standard Work. They will help empower practitioners to develop Systems Engineering and Digital fluency via coaching/mentoring and active involvement in tasks and projects. This role regularly interacts with supervisors, subject matter experts, organization discipline leaders and principal fellow discipline leads to develop training and other materials.

 

The MBSE Discipline Chief will also work closely with the other digital team members to provide recommendations for several upcoming military programs’ and the organization’s overall roadmap(s). Additionally, as a member of the MBSE Leadership Team, they will support the development and maintenance of MBSE tools, methodology, criteria, and their connection with analytical design models and product data management systems.

 

This role requires participation in customer and/or program technical reviews, providing subject matter expertise and feedback on EDSI specific work products. A candidate will be expected to maintain awareness of emerging trends in MBSE processes and product technologies. Periodic travel may be required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in Model Based Systems Engineering, technical presentations and/or reports to both internal and external customers and create, maintain, and improve Engineering Standard Work (ESW) for the MBSE sub-discipline
  • Actively support Systems Engineering practitioners to develop MBSE proficiency, implementation and connection between Cameo Systems Modeler and other digital applications to enable improved processes that deliver engineering value
  • Collaborate with other Discipline Chiefs and Fellows to drive process alignment, knowledge management and incorporation of critical technologies and tool improvements
  • Communicate changes and improvements in Engineering Standard Work enabled by digital tools, and ensure appropriate training is provided
  • Improve discipline health by leveraging best practices and lessons learned across multiple MBSE-adopting programs
  • Use Customer Oriented Results and Excellence (CORE) philosophy to identify opportunities to improve tools, methods and processes as challenges are encountered.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering and minimum 10+ years of relevant experience, or a Masters Degree with 7+ years of relevant experience; or PhD in relevant discipline
  • 4+ years experience using an MBSE related tool set, such as SysML, Rhapsody ®, Cameo/Magic Draw ®, or equivalent
  • Exposure to concepts of digital thread, integrated digital environments, and several systems engineering functions: requirements development and management, architecture, system design, integration and test, etc
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors / Masters / other certification in Systems Engineering
  • 4+ years experience with requirements management software such as DOORS, project management using Scaled Agile Framework methodology, and knowledge of MBSE best practices, open systems architecture (OSA), and/or contribution to systems engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques
  • An active and in-scope Secret U.S. security clearance or higher.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
