Position Summary:This position is housed in the UNCG School of Education (SOE) Institute for Partnerships in Education. The Institute for Partnerships in Education (IPiE) provides the necessary infrastructure and leadership to facilitate and support long-term partnerships between the SOE and education-related agencies (e.g., school districts, libraries, community organizations, etc.) across North Carolina and beyond. The Instructional Coach will work as part of the Mathematics and Science Teachers of Tomorrow (MST2) partnership between UNCG and Guilford County Schools (GCS).
The Instructional Coach for the MST2 program will teach classes in the SOE’s MAT program, will provide administrative leadership and programmatic support, and will also directly support GCS teachers in improving their instruction. They will be responsible for ensuring that participating teachers understand their role, develop effective practices for teaching middle and secondary mathematics and Science, and when problems arise, helping to mediate and resolve the problem. The Instructional Coach is also responsible for establishing a learning community among the MST2 teachers, scheduling and attending staff development, and serving as the instructor for the program’s clinical experience and clinical seminars. The Instructional Coach will serve as a broker, connecting the University faculty, district staff, and teachers. The person in this position is expected to use considerable judgment to perform work responsibilities, and must be able to work independently with limited direct supervision, and in collaboration with multiple stakeholders including Institute leaders, faculty, staff, students, UNCG central office, and external partners.
- Master’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree and an equivalent amount of education and experience, in a related field and a minimum of 3 years experience teaching mathematics and/or STEM at the middle or high school level.
- Record of effectiveness in supporting students’ learning.
- Experience in coaching, teacher education, or supervision; expertise in working with adult learners.
- Earned doctorate or doctoral candidate in teacher education, learning sciences, or a related field
- Strong communication, organization, and planning computer skills
- Experience working with inquiry-based mathematics and Science curricula

Essential Tasks:- Become knowledgeable of and advocate for GCS district-supported mathematics and Science curriculum
- Support MST2 participants in implementing the district-supported mathematics and Science curriculum
- Share exemplary mathematics and Science teaching practices; provide models and examples
- Become knowledgeable of participating teachers’ current instructional practices
- Observe teachers and provide feedback
- Conference with teachers about instruction and students’ learning after a lesson.
- Administer formative/summative assessments such as the Teacher Candidate Evaluation Rubric and the Candidate Dispositions Assessment Process

Essential Tasks:- Independently plan for partnership needs in advance, create internal systems and documents that align with those needs
- Independently resolve issues using own knowledge, analytical skill, and research of past actions
- Serve as the point of contact for the MST2 partnership, including fielding questions from faculty, staff, students, and partner organizations; address unique issues as they arise
- Use discretion when addressing unique issues, filtering questions that need consultation with Institute leaders
- Perform other professional development and liaison related duties as needed
